Would this affect his status and ranking? Didn't Alves get a title eliminator fight after missing weight and beating hughes?

How would the UFC handle it?

I think it depends on the reason for his failed cut.
I personally think that if you miss weight repeatedly, you should be forced to move up in weight class.

Was alves over by 10 pounds against hughes?

Weird spot to be in for the UFC and Gastelum. If he wins they wont give him a title shot, because he might miss weight. But at the Same time, if he beats Number 3 then what else is there. Hes not getting cut but a forced move to 185 might be what he needs

I Wonder if he showed up at about 180 pounds, or if he actually had to cut and only got to 180 and siad "fuck it...i cant do it"

There's no "winning" for Kelvin in this fight.

Seriously if he wins over Tyron after having terrible weight cut and getting hospitalized then damn that kid is tough.

He was 174, way less than Gastelum.

To Gastelum's defense, he wasn't 10 lbs over the whole time. He woke up 5 lbs over, but he had to get rehydrated at the hospital, which ballooned him up. I don't know if the weight cut caused him to go to the hospital or if he was actually sick with a bug.

I think the UFC will give him one more chance, if he misses again he'll be forced to move up.

It's the UFC man. If Gastelum makes a HL reel of Woodley then Dana is gonna praise him as the next GSP. "This kid is fucking unreal". If the fight is lackluster, Uncle Fester is gonna make him work for it.

Gasstlum didn't even try to make weight. He now has the unfair advantage of not having to cut weight. The commission would not have let him fight if he was "hospitalized" the day of the dam weigh in

Depends. if he doesnt run the risk of dying....then they will let him fight

Im still asking myself what could have caused him to weight 10lbs over and not drop out of the fight?

He is in Rumble/Vitor territory where he cannot win regardless if his hand gets raised or not

He needs to still perform well in this fight though or else it will look even worse, many times people forget about weight issues when they look back on a fight, they don't forget if you get finished

He was only 5 lbs over that mourning, but was sick and he was rushed to the hospital. They rehydrated him, so that ballooned him right back up and he didn't have any time to cut any weight.

Kelvin looked like death at the weigh in. If he makes it to the bell in this fight I'll be impressed.

If you're that sick then dont fight? and definitely think about changing weight class.

Not the first time he missed and it was very bad this time. The guy is young and only going to get bigger. His future is at 185, the question is how long before he makes the move.

I don't know enough about the situation to comment on the weight cut, but IMO Gastelum has no business in a title eliminator at this point regardless. Lombard/Rory?

+5 lbs on the morning of weigh-ins isn't exactly a small figure if you are already coming from a huge cut
