When there's a hype train such as Chimaev do you root for it to get derailed or do you want to see that train keep on chugging?

Don't much care either way but I do like "streaks" and "activity". Hyped for the fights, zero concern bout the fans and narratives.

Sometimes it makes for fun threads and shoops tho...

What happened to Sean O Malley and his weed!

I think we all were rooting for him to lose

got no problem with the guy and he's seriously talented, but anytime Sherdog goes crazy with hypetrains (which always happens here) it's always fun to see it come crashing down and see fanboys backtrack and say "he was never that good"

I guess it depends if I like them or not. If I like them they will become champ and if I don't I want to see them lose or at least be humbled. I have always found it easier to root for more softly spoken and respectful fighters and that usually comes from confidence in their ability unlike loud mouth's who try and act tough.

Depends. I don't really want to see people lose, but if Dana is the conductor and creating hilarious unwarranted hype then it's always amusing to see it crash.
Lol, I remember when he was so big on Sage Northcutt during his inititial run, and after he lost to Barbarena, Dana made the dumbest excuse I've ever heard for why he lost. Another one that comes to mind was how Dana used Conor's loss to Diaz as an excuse to insult GSP for some reason. It is great seeing DFW get out of sorts when one of his hype trains get derailed.

As for TS's question, it depends for me, too. I don't mind hype-trains, except for when they're too obviously protected by match-makers. One reason I became a Conor hater was that he was talking all this s***, but not fighting the best in each division. I actually really admire that the UFC are trying to get Khamzat to fight Edwards, and Khamzat on board with it. That's a MASSIVE step up in competition from GM3.

I generally root for them because they capture the imagination. I just can't help but enjoy the idea that there is someone is going to bring something so new and next level to the table that they'll blow everyone else out of the water.

But watching these stars on the rise fall to established fighters can also be satisfying because it reaffirms the comforting knowledge that the top guys really are the best at what they do.

Either way, you want to watch, so why not love a hype train.

So far he puts on exciting, one sided fights, fights on short notice in two weight classes. Can't hate him for that, he's grinding.
