After training BJJ or any other grappling sport, do you guys use normal shower gel to wash with, or somthing else?

I ask because i thought maybe somthing anti bacterial is more apporopriate but didnt know if there was anything like that.

thanks

At my gym, theres bottles of anti bacterial that we can use so I use that before I shower, then I just use regular shower gel

Gel? I use soap.:D And I get chicks.

Although after training I towel dry hard as I read long ago it gets rid of dead skin and have since done so.:icon_lol:

I just shower, but I agree with Q mystic. I do towel dry, aggressively :p.

I had a staff infection before and my instructor recommended using Nizoral (it's a shampoo) after training. After I use that on my entire hot bod, then I use normal soap.

My old wrestling coach, a science teacher, taught us that leaving soap lather on your body for like 5 minutes before washing it off will help prevent ringworm because it will dry out the skin.

i wash with antibacterial soap, then again with shower gel and a loofa(sp?) lol

I only roll once a week but I lather up with Nizoral all over and leave it on for 3-5 mins. I then use one of those in shower rinse off moisterizors to help replace the moisture that the shampoo pulls off.

Pretty soon I'll be moving to a town where I can roll 4-5 days a week. I may look into getting some sulfur soap to alternate with regular soap and continue to use the Nizoral once a week to keep any new infections from taking up root. I'll reassess if I find out the sulfur soap makes me look yellow or smell funny. If so I'll just be real vigorous with the regular soap (maybe leave it on for 5 mins like the other poster said) and use the Nizoral once a week.

Does anyone know if wearing gi pants and long-sleeved rashguards will reduce the chances of catching something nasty.

I sweat so much I have to wonder if some fungus wouldn't just swim from the outside onto my skin. But I guess it makes me feel a little bit more comfortable knowing a good percentage of my skin area is covered and less likely to get seriously abraded and allow an even better place for the nasties to grab hold.

Finally, some CLEAN grapplers who care about their hygeine!

Yes, covering the skin as a PREVENTIVE measure absolutely decreases your chances of catching common germs that are transmitter skin-to-ckin.

Gotta love the gi!

i shower right when i get home from class because i smell like ass and i cant stand it + i dont want to get ringworm or some other skin disease

ringworm sucks. takes forever to get rid of and it looks hideous

I shower right when I get home. Im like a germ freak, Im not able to like touch my bed or anything after BJJ. I have to be clean or else I cant do anything.

I cant give you a definitive answer, but i prefer to wear gi pants and long sleeve rash guards for no-gi. I like to think it helps protect me from catching some kind of infection, but I havent really researched it to be sure.

Ringworm is only spread by skin to skin contact. Generally it only infects if your immune system is somehow impaired. That could be as simple as a scratch. It will not "swim" through your sweat. Yes, wearing more clothing will help prevent skin to skin contact and hence ringworm. Cleaning yourself immediately post class will help.

Yes, it's nice to see people worried about hygiene.

i don't think my wife would let me near the bed if i didn't shower after practice. i use a combo of antibacterial and teatree oil soap. knock on wood, i've only had ringworm once and that was after rolling at a place notorious for the worm, which i found out later.

after practice its normaly an hour plus untill i can take a shower. I just got some anti bacterial for the hands and i rub my self down with that after practice.

I have not had any problems, and just take a shower when i get home ASAP.

If at all possible i stop by a friends house and shower right after practice. Nothing good can come from not staying clean.
