HW Division is Weakest Because of Major Sports

Lightest Avg NFL Team: 242lbs (Cleveland Browns)

Derrick Lewis is a guy who could have gotten to the NFL but legal problems got him thrown out of college football. Not surprisingly, he is beating up fighters who have a lifetime of experience. Stipe Miocic is a guy who was looked at by MLB scouts during his time in college. Not surprisingly, he is dominating the UFC division because he couldn't make the major leagues. Bork Lesnar, played limited time on the Viking's practice squad, and was able to squash a significant portion of the HW division.

The point is, if you are an A level athlete and are a true heavyweight, you're going to major sports. The combination of elite athleticism and size is the rarest combination of human being. The misunderstanding on these boards is that A level athletes don't really exist in UFC. That is not true, they exist in great number now in weight classes under LHW. GSP is a true A level athlete, but he's 5'10". Mighty Mouse is probably one of the greatest athletes in sports right now, but there are no other pro sports for a guy who is 5'3".
 
Bro the defensive linemen of the NFL may be the worlds greatest sumo wrestlers, but they aint a-level athletes.
 
There are tons of guys who have the athleticism to play in "major" sports but don't make the cut for the big leagues (past high school/college level) because they aren't among the most athletic AND skilled at those sports. Major sports are not the reason those guys don't come in great number to MMA, most people just don't prefer fighting.

For real though, unless the pay for hw's goes up exponentially, at best we're just going to see failed athletes for the most part and nonathletic fighters. The true freaks will go to sports that actually pay.
 
Couldnt be more wrong. HW should be thriving based on the number of guys who play football. There are tons of great athletes that are big men who play college ball and never make it to the pros. The truth is that MMA has not done a good job as promoting this as a viable financial option for these guys (mainly because it isnt).

Defensive lineman might be the best athletes on the team.

Who else can run a 4.7 40 yard dash, get a 35 inch vertical, bench 225 20 times, shuttle run in 4.4 seconds and still be 6'2 270 pounds shredded? I'm not talking about NT and DT but DE and OLB at the NFL level are 99% percentile athletes.

Keep in mind guys like Clowney, Mack, Miller and Watts have better numbers than the ones I used as an example.

You do realize the UFC is an American product and most of the fighters are American right?
 
lighter weights have no other choice, no basketball or nfl teams want them

Until they pay real money the real athletes will go elsewhere. Except for midget's they have no where else to go.
 
those sports just require larger guys.

There are plenty of small guys playing positions where it is sometimes more advantageous to be smaller and speedier.

It's like saying swimmers aren't A level athletes because all the big guys are in the NFL.

HW is weak though.
 
Jon Jones can't dunk a bball. And is the most super athlete the UFC has.

OLine just have to be big and strong. Not much movement involved. They just have to be a wall.

DLine has to be pretty strong and agile to get around the OLine, and fast enough to get to the QB and RBs to make tackles. They also have to have good enough reflex to deflect/punch/intercept balls.

How does one measure the "heart of the warrior" would we use the same construct as used to measure the "eye of the tiger"?
 
The body develops depending the sport you practice, you don't wait until you're 18 and go to basketbal if you're 6'7 or to football if you're 220lb.

So in MMA, if you practice wrestling, or boxing in your youth you don't necessarily will be tall or big, unless you come from a genetically big family, but your body will be prepared to deal a situation that requires fighting.

In basketball theyr'e tall because of the nature of basketball, and the same with football

Also Stipe is something like golden gloves champion, Brock was a wrestler NCAA champion, and Derrick Lexis still haven't proved anything, the HW division is full of bad athletes because unlike the lighter guys they don't need to invest time to train they're technique or cardio, since they can finish a fight with only 1 punch, look at Todd Dufee, very tall, athletic and gets KO that easily.
