Who's out there? Where the newbreed HW's at? This division is my favourite and its in good shape right now with a veteran core dominating and maybe Fedor coming back but its not looking good in the near future... Anyone know of some HW prospects out there?
It'll still be the same guys. Stefan Struve will still be one of the youngest fighters in the division.
Newbreed there? Hunt, Arlovski, Rothwell, Big Nog, Mir... I'd guess that Kimura and such will pop up.
It sure as hell won't be. Half of the division will be retired in 5 years. Cain Velasquez will be retired in 5 years.
Well, you know Big Nog will still be there. Maybe there's just not enough skilled guys around that would otherwise be happy to fight around 230 but aren't thrilled to have to fight huge guys that are cutting down to make 265, so they would rather fight at 205.
I made this thread a while back listing all the UFC HWs, on the UFC website roster, and listed their ages. Determine for yourself who will be around in 5 years, but anyone who is 33 or older is almost guaranteed to be retired.
The average athlete or fighter doesn't have a heavyweight build. Add in the fact that athletes who do are pushed into Football by their parents, coaches, etc even though their chances of succeeding are slim to none. It's not surprising that there is a lack of quality HW MMA fighters when the same can be said for every other combat sport today.
Guaranteed to fail his first test. Bilyal Makhov will be interesting, he's signed a deal to fight in the UFC after 2016 Olympics
Yeah, Aliakbari got a lifelong ban from wrestling. Not a good look for him. Do you follow wrestling a lot? Any insight on who you think is a better wrestler, Makhov or Aliakbari?
The HW division has been producing less and less top level talent. There are only a few guys coming up every 2 years or so. The last 2 great HW's came up in 08-11 and that was JDS and Cain along with Cormier. Since then only Miocic thats a top level talent. There are few prospects in the UFC with Magodemov as the best one. Lots good guy in Europe though, UFC should look there
Yeah, okay. What are you smoking? The heavyweight division is struggling, but all of the other divisions are pretty solid if not spectacular.
Bobby lashley in the top 10 could sadly happen and could sign for big bucks since his record will be great after crushing cans for 3 years until the ufc signs him because of lack of depth
