How would you know how long it should take from conceptualization to end product to call it disappointing? Lol because some show pretended to talk to a prop?

Anyone who is disappointed because there are no flying cars seems a bit dumb and very clueless to where our technology actually stands today

That’s only for take off and landing. You’re allowed to turn them back on once you’re at cruising altitude, and some airline have wi-fi you can log onto. I’ve never text messaged before, but have watched movies/TV shows.

Anyone that’s not amazed with the technology improvements from the last 30 years probably isn’t old enough to understand what life was like in the ‘80s.

  3. I called my wife via WIFI from the plane last year.

Flying cars seem like progress for the sake of progress. I don't see how that would make anyone's life better. We need them self driving cars to get smart.

You sound overweight. That's one advancement we haven't conquered too.

I believe the simpleton sitting in his mom's basement complaining that life isn't like some 80s show is more likely to be overweight and stupid, but nice try :)

Hell, I grew up in the 90s and there's still a big difference in technology from then to now

There was a display predicting self driving cars at the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry in 1959.

Bob Cummings had a flying car in his sitcom in 1961.

The advances in technology since the 80s or the 70s for that matter are mostly due to processor speed, memory capacity and miniaturization. Computers went from taking up rooms to the size of a cell phone.

In July 1924, famed fighter pilot, racecar driver, and automotive designer Eddie Rickenbacker wrote the first story about flying cars in Popular Science. The headline read “Flying Autos in 20 Years.”

Just googled 80's and 70's Sci Fi tech to see if there was shit that popped up that we use to today and take for granted.

I vividly remember that Helmet Cam scene from Aliens... The first Alien scared me shitless when I saw it on HBO as a 2nd grader. I had nightmares for years.

When the Marines went into that Alien nest... oh boy. I think I had a panic attack watching it in the theater.

But those helmet cams seemed so cool. How many officers wished they could get real time feedback on action in the field. It's no wonder that the military uses them today.

Also, the Idea of the Surveillance State from George Orwell's 1984 was meant as a warning... right? But we've all walked willingly into that one.

You guys can probably google "technological advances from NASA" (preferably an infographic) to see how the technology developed by NASA over the years was used to improve our everyday lives and even provide life-saving advances.

A lot of the technology some people take for granted these days would be amazing to us 20 years ago.

Also, TS wants to be wowed so can someone post a picture of a shiny object to satisfy him?

Best use of a helmet cam is that fob fucker guy.

I'm starting to realise just where all this tech is going.

Also, you know you don't have to mail in VCR tapes to America's Funniest Home Videos anymore?

Yes, that was how it was done.... a long, long, time ago in a decade far away.

  17. it's funny though, i was just thinking about beyond 2000 the other day - would be fun to go back and watch it again

My grandfather was born in 1899 and died in 1981. He saw major changes from travel by steam trains or horse, to cars, to the first airplane flights, rockets, electric lights, electric appliances, electric motors, radio, atomic bomb, television, color television, computers, nuclear energy and watched men on the moon an unmanned landing on Mars. During his lifetime there were so many big advances that make the last 40 years pale by comparison.
