yeah they where stronger but with lesser intelligence. its evolution. u cant be stronger and have a great intelligence at the same time. evolution always tells us that there is no perfect species
 
The way I remember being taught is
The melanine in humans skin had to be thinner layered
to catch enough sunrays from the colder European climate
Which makes for lighter skin.

that's not why we're white. In fact there are only a few sub saharan african groups who are void of Neanderthal DNA.

The evolutionary traits of modern human beings is, like all animals, speculative as it pertains to the specific conditions that led to the evolutionary path. In general, less sun will lead to less pigment.

It doesn't work like that.
Europe was cloudy when hominids first appeared on the continent. Vitamin D is essential and is produced by an interaction between the sun's energy and chemicals in the body. If your skin is dark it will absorb more of the sun's energy before it gets deep enough to wear that interaction occurs.
 
if medicine wasn't what it is then maybe.

in Australia skin cancer is huge, 2 out of 3 Australians will be diagnosed with skin cancer before they are 70. It's 2 to 3x more common down here than in the US. If we (humanity) didn't have the medical science we enjoy, natural selection would be fucking our white australian asses up.

Skin color will probably change, but more due to the mixed breeding between different skin colored people, and not due to the climate. That is to say, if you would segregate a population of white skin colored people in south America, I'd guess the skin color wouldn't change much over time because, due to the technological advancement, there is essentially no difference in the Fitness.

How much time do the people in those countries spend outdoors or in the elements compared to the time spent indoors in light and temperature controlled environments? "White" people aren't going to vanish due to moving to hotter climates because most spend very little time outside. If anything, dark people who spend too much time indoors will get lighter.

That's not how evolution works.
As long as the light skinned people have the same survival and reproductive rates as black people, the amount of time they spend out\indoors is irrelevant.
