This isn't a Cain bashing thread, he is the best heavyweight on the planet right now, but I can't help but wonder how his style would translate to a Pride style ring. Could JDS beat him in a Pride ring or would Cain still dominate him?

I know this is hypothetical and irrelevant since UFC will always be in a cage, the topic is just for fun discussion.

We can't be sure, but I think he would be pretty successful at cornering guys and teeing off on them there.
Also he could probably get a lot of sloppy takedowns against the ropes and get resets on the ground in middle of the ring.

That is one thing most do not realize when matching Cain against Fedor.

I think jds would have slipped and hit his head sooner with ropes.

He would do just fine. A lot of people think he walls and stalls his way to victory but if he fought in a ring he would just utilize his wrestling and gnp a whole lot more. Different strategies people.

he could probably beat everyone in a ring as well

that said, the way the cage can be used is obviously a massive and unnecessary advantage for wrestlers (and Anthony Pettis I guess)

    Exactly.
Which is why guys who don't want to get taken down (eg JDS, Anderson Silva) put their back against the fence regularly and why wrestlers who want guys down drag them away from the fence.

Maybe no better than Fedor in a cage.

Ring would suit JDS more. Cain not so much.

you guys realize strikers like jds kept running to put their back on the cage intentionally right? because it defends takedowns and theyd rather be there than on their back

anyways, cain would get more takedowns and probably put everyone in the corner and be in more brutal and suffocating

the nature of the fence is a much bigger advantage for the wrestler still
And if you're taken down with your head stuck close to the fence it is even worse

At this point it seems almost scarier for Cain to have you against the cage then it does for him to have you on your back. That guy is a master at smothering you against the cage and doing massive damage in the process.

A ring favours the striker a lot more I think... you cannot push someone against the ropes as effectively and bash him like Cain did in the third fight on Saturday.

Unfortunately, JDS as he currently is, would lose to Velasquez regardless of the setting.
