Galvao did allright, I think he will return to sometime to MMA... I dont know why you keep bringing denny, is is a very talented grappler, but he is not elite though...

You can say the same thing about wrestling, there are countless incredible wrestlers that did not do too good in MMA, there is the guy who beat karelin... I can name a huge list of name that are all doing extremely well, that doesnt imply that they shold be champs, besides cormier, who was the last olympian gold medallist UFC champ? to be a UFC champ, you probably need more than excel in one area...

well, not many top champ are crossing over on the lighter weights either.... bibiano fernandez is the only world champ that is currently active in mma that I can think of, and of course bj penn... there are countless bjj players in current mma though, mark bocek, yuri alcantara, hacran diaz, jim miller, joe lauzon, just to name a few, but elite competitors that have made the transition to mma, I cant think on many...

Given how good Buchecha's wrestling and top game are, I think he'd do okay. When you have BJJ guys go to MMA who are mostly top players with good TDs like Ricardo Arona, Murilo Bustamante, Mario Sperry, etc they tend to do well. It's BJJ guys who are primarily guard players with no TDs that get f-ed up. They can't strike, and they can't get the fight to the ground. It's never pretty.

He had only one MMA fight and he won. Ended up not liking MMA so he stopped.

Have you seen Buchecha's standup videos? He's not that great, man, to say the least.

But with committed training, I think he'd do pretty well. He probably wouldn't be a world champion (but if he did, I'd be super down), but whatever.

But marcelo lost. Not devastatingly, but he still lost. He looked so frantic and not composed at all in his fight

Rulon Gardner won, Marcelo lost, there's a difference.

I think Rulon was also about 100 pounds bigger, and barely eked out a win against an opponent who had no conceivable threat to use against him.

Ah, how I miss the glory days of Pride.

explain Jose Aldo and the rest of Nova Uniao team which is virtually made up of nearly all lighter weight fighters.

Some BJJ guys train too much wrestling w/o excelling at it and horribly neglect their standup striking skills. If you have an excellent guard-focused sport BJJ game and want to do well in MMA, you need the type of standup striking game that will F**K people up

When has aldo aver displayed his jiu jitsu, or guard game for that matter? He has good TDs and great TDD butvwhat he excells in are his kicks and knees. Hes a freak of nature; there are always exceptions.
