Sink or swim?

Tough tough loss.

Will he come back stronger and learn from his mistakes or will he suffer a similar fate?

As a fan of Silva's I was as bummed as anyone he lost but I was even more impressed by him when I got home and watched it on the DVR. It seemed even more one sided in person but that liver kick was nasty and he hit him with it again. Matt Brown was pure class and humble as ever.

By fighting a fringe top 20 guy in Brazil.

beat a can on a brazil card, then get ko'ed against a top 15 fighter.
then get cut.

I feel like they've rushed him in some respects with the Fitch fight. The Brown fight was fair game. Despite his win streak. I think he needs 2-3 fringe guys to build his confidence and his skillset. He's such a talented and marketable guy despite his cardio and fight IQ issues. He's nearly 30 but seems not to have too much mileage on him, going into that fight, now After the Brown fight, he's probably about where he should be for a 30 year old with as many fights as he has. That fight will definitely take it's toll on him.

He'll look like a world-beater in his next fight against someone hardly anyone's heard of.

would like to see him fight the winner of Rick Story vs John Howard

I don't think the UFC would cut him. He's too exciting. They keep guys around like that.

It's the Jake Shields and Jon Fitch's that they let go. The Yushin Okami's and such. Which I totally disagree with but it's just how their business model operates.

The winner? Really? I think he needs a gimme fight after such a brutal loss. Give Story/Johnson a winner of another fight, not a loser.

Beats a nobody on an undercard, then gets brutally finished by a named journeyman on a main card.

Edit: the general consensus i think

So it's pretty much a foregone conclusion that it's going to be a squash fight and then in over his head again? That's too bad. They should build this kid up.

Here is a serious question... How would Erick Silva have faired against the same six guys Matt Brown had fought leading up to the Eick Silva fight? I'm genuinely curious because I don't know myself. My gut says he would have won at least 4-5 of them if not all 6. I could be wrong. Why is Matt Brown held to a different standard as Erick Silva in the sense that Brown had TUF recognition and still took a while to develop and they are rushing Silva compared to Brown who they are doing everything in their power to keep from a title shot. Even if it is up for discussion very few people have that many UFC wins coming into a title fight. Usually only undefeated guys.

I think he'll get a couple squash fights.

Do you necessarily think that is a bad thing? They will be barn burners and he's probably not getting super over paid or anything. It was only his second fight outside of Brazil. I'm sure that played a factor. Give him a few nobodies (no offense) in the US or maybe overseas just to get him acclimated. He has a lot of potential despite showing some deficiencies midway through his career.

Two top 20 fights, one top 15 fight, then sink or swim if he makes it to the top ten. IF he makes a run at the title, IF....he will only do it once. Pressure's on Silva now.

I they still have faith in Silva and want they will give him a winnable fight against a lower tier WW.

Run at the title?? How about a nice run at the top ten by stringing 2-3 wins together. win one, lose one pattern gets you nowhere.

Dude is 29 and had 8 UFC fights, why do people still act like he is some 22 year old prospect ?

I honestly have no idea. Silva has been fighing for almost a decade and yet he is still considered a young prospect. He looks young I guess.
