Vettori and Israel are both legit. It's more of a case of Tavares doing everything that would make Adesanya look good that makes people wonder what happened in the Vettori fight.

He's tough, big, and durable and a solid prospect himself. Other than being able to eat shots he didn't really do anything to adesanya. Granted it wasn't the best performance from Izzy so he seemed to step his game up for a top 10 opponent in his last fight. Vettori is someone to watch himself tho.

Adesanya is an educated fighter and he never seems to try and FORCE the KO. So Big durable MW's who don't press the action will likely always look a lil better vs a counter striker like Izzy.

Because Vettori is legit, that's why.

Adesanya is clearly talented, but his biggest win is Tavares, who is also legit and has some experience in UFC, but not a top fighter.

Adesanya is ranked #9 right now.
I would like to see him against Jacare or Romero.
And I would like to see Costa against Weidman or Rockhold.

Young vs old lions. Bisping, Machida, Vitor... all gone. Maybe the young one can retire the old ones left.

The fight was very close.
If the judges declared Vettori the winner, no one would be surprised.
And like others sais, Vettori didn't do that good in that fight, neither Adesanya. But in the Tavares fight, oh, yeah!

I'd say that he's more than a small step, but he can take a licking and keep on ticking, for now. As soon as that chin goes, he'll be on a vicious downward slide. Gets hit way too often.

Israel ain't as good as many think and Vettori ain't as bad as many think.. Tavares was well known to be injured and even pulled out of the fight exactly one month before the fight happened. One of the perils of being a fighter is that you pay for training camps, only make loot when you perform and don't want to piss off Dana if you pull out - the end result is fighters fighting hurt, killing themselves to make weight and being terrified to choose their interests over Dana's (ask Ortega). Tavares is still tailor made for Israel, but make no mistake, he was hurt and everyone that follows this sport closely knew it from the get go. Vettori very likely beats Israel in a five rounder based off what we saw.

Just watched the fight for the 1st time. I thought it was legitimately close (unlike some split decisions, a la GSP-Penn I).

2nd was Israel, 3rd was Vettori. 1st round didn't really have any definitive moments, and I actually thought Vettori controlled/won more of the round than Israel did....a split for either guy or even a draw are all conceivable imo.

As to why, I think it's easy for counter-strikers to lose rounds. In the context of the 10 point must system in an MMA fight, it's often a disadvantageous style to have if the finish doesn't present itself.

In his mind Anderson & Aldo are the only 2 good fighters. No one else is allowed to be.
