How the hell is Anderson Silva ranked the # 5 MW in the world right now...

A lo and behold a single mma fan can absolutely dwarf a giant company like the UFC

Their follies are quite conssistant with the constant Reebok incompetents that MISSPELL HALF THE FIGHTERS' FUCKING NAMES
They really need to let me just take over the rankings.

rankings are based on the HERE and NOW and rely more on what's on PAPER.

No, they're really not. They are opinion based by journalists who don't want to fall out of favor with teh UFC. We've known this for years. Its the reason why fighters will suddenly jump up a couple of spots when a fight gets announced.

That's just...
Just awful.

What can I expect from the UFC though. Fuck bring on the damn Chinese.

Even at 41 years old Anderson is a top 5 MW, get over it, everyone knows Bisping got his ass whooped.

I agree he is past his prime and over the hill and all that BUT....

He beat Nick Diaz and he would have beat Bisping if he didn't celebrate too early. Other than that he only lost to one guy. He probably would have had more contests since 2012 but he BROKE HIS FUCKING LEG IN HALF. So, ya know, there's all that.

Always visit scorecardmma.com rankings when in doubt. It has the best algorithms to calculate who should be ranked where.

According to the current MW rankings, Silva is ranked #23.

Shout out to the mastermind @zec1234 .

Thanks SirKratos.

We have Anderson ranked as #19 in UFC and #23 overall MW.
And even that is mostly based on his legacy points.

Yes, for real Silva's career is shrouded in controversy which is very unique and strange but rankings themselves should be based on a solid, numerical record rather than a human "what if" analysis. Things that actually happen as apposed to what may have happened are more important.

I was talking to a buddy about how weird the LHW rankings were and its for a lot of the same reasons.

The rankings are historical so you see weird stuff like this sometimes where everyone knows that a guy shouldn't be ranked where he is because he's passed his prime or has declined or whatever, but the way rankings work the guy has to be beat before he drops. So Anderson is ranked that high because the only people who have beat him are ranked above him. If he lost to Hall he would've dropped out of the top ten (maybe fifteen) because Hall isn't a top ten fighter and it would prove that Anderson doesn't belong there.

This just all seems like excuses to me though.

He popped hot against Nick Diaz.

The bell rang at the same time as he hit Bisping. What does Silva do the next round? Lays against the fence doing nothing. Bisping beat him fair and square.

Silva broke his leg, yes he did. So is he weak minded? Every fighter has broken many bones, yet they can all come back. Why does his leg make that big a difference? Was it because it "looked" like a bad break that he gets sympathy points? How long does the leg excuse last for? Like, 2018 it runs out, and then his losses count?

Silva was a egend, yes he was. Point is, he is not the same fighter he was, and should be ranked accordingly.

EDIT: you have an awesome avatar ahaha

That's the point, they should matter and they should and could be taken seriously and done correctly.

As an mma fan I rely on rankings to give me a feel of how good a matchup is and how well somebody is doing currently if I forget a few things. With something like this, it makes them unreliable and inconssistant which is very frustrating when I am mentally trying to sort everybody out. And yes that sort of thing IS important to me as a fan and this takes away from my enjoyment of the sport as a whole.

I like to take my hobby more seriously than the UFC is allowing me to. Sorry if this sounds too serious but god damnit I am an mma fan and I take it serious.

(Note that I am not lashing out on you sorry if it came out that way)

Think about all the threads whining about rankings being "wrong" for this reason or that reason. That should tell you that the UFC never had any intentions on them meaning anything. There are too many variables involved for them to actually have a meaningful impact on anything. They're there to create discussion, that's it.

I haven't gone to any UFC site since 2011 so it works for me.
