Yeah, I understand his legacy was fucking fantastic and he still is very dangerous for any MW out there, but he is long past his prime and rankings are based on the HERE and NOW and rely more on what's on PAPER. Paper being the numbers, statistics and whatnot. (He is 0-3-0-1) in his last 4.)

He has not had a solid victory since October 2012 and even then it was against an unranked Stephen Bonnar. The other victory in 2012 being against Chael Sonnen.. and before that Yushin Okami who either guy is not even fighting and ranked currently...

So really he hasn't been a serious force in the UFC since 2011 era. It is fucking 2016. Sure, Silva had an inhumane run but it's FUCKING OVER! LONG OVER!! WTF is wrong with the UFC leaving him at # 5 position in MW? whut.

Give the spot to guys that are more deserving please. Not that it really matters but the UFC rankings cannot be taken seriously with shit like this. For those interested: http://www.ufc.com/rankings?id=

All the guys ranked below him are pretty much doing a lot better than Anderson lately.

Fuck, FEDOR is doing way better than Anderson lately (4 fight win streak albeit against cans, but arguably Anderson's last wins were not really so great either)

Sigh

I am an Anderson fan as well. But really I don't think that there is a solid answer for this.

Because nostalgia is too big of a deal in this sport.

the UFC will continue to market him as a "legit threat" with "real 1 punch knockout power"

its easier to do that if hes ranked high still

Wasn't his decision win against nick a NC when he tested positive for steroid tainted limp dick pills? So he technically hasnt won any fight since he lost the MW belt to the chris.

That's pretty much the only explantion. And it's not even a legitimate one..

UFC guys are perhaps just doing this for marketing reasons who knows. But I look at other rankings on sites and he is still top ten. lol.

Yep. He is 0-3-0-1 in his last four.

Meanwhile ranked above guys on 3 fight winning streaks in UFC MW division

Always visit scorecardmma.com rankings when in doubt. It has the best algorithms to calculate who should be ranked where.

According to the current MW rankings, Silva is ranked #23.

Shout out to the mastermind @zec1234 .

Even Fedor did not get this treatment when he lost 3. They fucking blew him way off the map.

Their rankings are bs, the way they run their whole operation is bs. Don't take none of it seriously, especially when they're trying to call this a sport lol! That gets me every time. :D

Brazilian voters. I havent even looked and i bet they all have him ranked higher than other voters. Its like that for other Brazilian fighters too.

Agreed, he should not be ranked in top 5 in May 2016, its only based on past achievements, a lot has happened since then.

Since going past his prime, a while ago, he changed his style around the Griffin fight to make up for it (being less aggressive and relying more on counter-punching and clowning to lure people into his slower pace)and he did an amazing job with his new style because he was so fucking great before. Even going past his prime he still whopped ass. But NOW, he is absolutely WAY past his prime and only short glimpses of brilliance come out every so often while he fights. (which amazingly was still enough to drop Michael Bisping)

He is now at the point of no return. While we will never see the Silva that dismantled all opposition early in his UFC career and adjusted to age and still KOd people later in his career - perhaps the only Anderson Silva that we will see now that can still get W's would be against lower competition. He can no longer roll with the big boys.

But he was so good that even now he could still destroy the journeymen. Leave him to that.

Its funny how the standards for rankings have shifted isn't it? I remember back in the day older names often dropped like a stone when their form dropped off.

For me the reason is fairly clear, there was a good deal of established talent not in the UFC during the post pride era and there desire was for these guys to lose their rankings ASAP. Today though with the UFC having most of the established talent it makes sense for them to keep that talent ranked highly.
