How the hell can fighters be dumb enough not to promote their events?

A fighter does promos, interviews, press conferencing, and such to promote their fight. This publicity makes money for the company and fighter by bringing attention to their event.

By doing these promotional and contractual obligations the fighter is really also helping raise his stock and overall pay.

Why the hell would a fighter be dumb enough to forgo doing these when it's their paycheck that is directly affected?

Also, if a fighter puts themselves at odds with their company/bosses it can be detrimental in the future. If someone like Conor keeps winning he's got the power, but if he has even 1 loss, it could cost him.

He did have one loss and it didnt cost him anything. Hes actually lost twice on the two biggest stages of his career and came back. The arena is sold out and the fights over a month away. Calm down.

The more they promote the less they train. The less they train the less chance of winning making more cash. Except Nate Diaz.

Too busy training. There’s no point in doing promotional work when it could impact your performance in the fight..

Colby covington is the perfect example of self promotion

I'd imagine that smart, savy people don't go into MMA in the first place

Oh, and tell your bosses at WME to hire acting coaches and writers for the guys if lack of promotion bothers you this much.

The UFC, as a global sport, just needs to do a better job of embracing technology. Flying fighters to a location to do a press conference is antiquated and messes with their training. Just do a video conference. Then the fighters can insult each other all they want, training time is not interrupted, and no bottles or dollies can be thrown.

They get punched and kicked in the head for a living. I generally don’t question why they are dumb/smart.

Lol most fighters aren't serious.
If I was in the ufc I would be trying to bang all the famous hotties like Rockhold does and get as many advertising gigs as possible.
At the very least ramp up a massive social media following and set up a patreon.
Theres big money in that these days...

Henry Cejudo is an idiot for not promoting himself. He just dethroned MM and hasn’t made any noise since.

He needs to punch a cop after stealing a news helicopter high on coke or something.

So fighting is just what they do for fun?

What does the dude flipping burgers at McDonalds get paid for? The intrinsic value of flipping?

He gets paid because the burger gets sold.

Jesus, how can people be so dumb.

The fucking FIGHTING has no value in itself. It’s the tickets and PPVs and shirts sold.

It sounds like you are assuming a professional Mixed Martial Arts fighter must be very intelligent.

Connor puts on a show and goes off the chain with previous promotional appearances and people bitch and moan that he can't just shut up and fight. Now, Connor is quiet and preparing for the fight and people are still complaining. WTF?!

Its an unnecessary distraction and is absolutely pointless to you if you are not getting ppv share.

losing in boxing does not effect him...if he went out and played golf tournement, would that effect him also..different sport...
