this is how the best muay thai in the world looks like. unlike in europe and america elbows are used alot - u can see some in the video and it changes everything.

im showing this to show muay thai isnt just "brandon vera" and "anderson silva" who are the most popular to ufc fans. to be honest before even i thought the best muay thai came from chute boxe brazil's wand and shogun.

some people think muay thai fighters have bad hands and only know how to kick but this guy uses his hands more than he kicks. he fights different from buakaw and doesnt use as much body kicks as buakaw does, i kinda like his style more

just wanted to show u someone that nobody really knows about , hope u enjoy

"Anuwat Kaewsamrit is the current Rajdamnern Stadium and Lumpini Stadium champion, two of the most prestigious Muay Thai titles in the world, and he was voted the 2002 Muay Thai fighter of the year in Thailand. The Kaewsamrit Gym where he trains is one of the most successful gyms in Thailand churning out numerous champions over the last few years. It was voted the #2 gym of the year in 2001, #1 gym of the year in 2002, #3 gym of the year in 2003."

Though is much by the preference of the fighters, under full muay thai rules most fighters use kicks as a primary weapon and uses the hand to close the distance for elbows and clinch.

It really depends on how they train too. Muay Thai rules is not like k-1, instead you can clinch forever as long as you guys are pressing the action(like ground in mma). Most fighters are very comfortable in the clinch. Its not kickboxing where you use punches and kicks only. Just think, you train punches just about the same as you train clinching or even less depending on what gym you train in. So it is no big surprise that many fighters feel more comfortable using their hands to clinch rather than to box.

Like I said it is the preference of the fighters. Anuwat, Coban, and Dekkers are prime example of heavy hands in Muay Thai.

Anuwat made a huge huge mistake of going up a weightclass btw

great!

i love his "dodge highkick, counter with straight right hand"...

i posted this somewhere else and some guy said

this is muay thai for muay thai fighters...NOT mma fighters. the reason you think it looks so different is because the muay thai you see in mma is adaptaed for mma. Those muay thai fighters in that youtube vid can fire off all those knees and high kicks all they want cuz they aren't worried about a double leg takedown.

mma is still new and if it changes itll have more than just the "leg kick" u always see and the ''once in a while'' high kick knockout. muay thais been around as old as thailand and pretty much wont change. when pride and ufc gets older i think the punching and kicking part might look more like real muay thai and other of the best asian styles

fighters in ufc and pride can get more confident with doing kicks cus things change. before it was all bjj (royce gracie style) that owned mma and now its sprawl+punch/kick and other ones like fedor's style (who even went to train with the best in K1 muay thai to fight crocop)

back then u wouldnt see the best fighters throwing kung fu/karate/tkd back kicks like GSP when he fought hughes. same with how every ufc fan acted like they never seen a thai clinch before anderson silva used it to win a belt, while pride already had wanderlei and shogun throwing knees in the thai clinch for years. fighters will see fighters do things that are people never do (gsp back kick) or things people think are dangerous but more and more people will try things out and copy each other

everybodys learning how to sprawl (people copy how cro cop, chuck, gsp beat tito and hughes) so more people will have to use the 'randy couture' body clinch that shogun and fedor use alot (in their fights with nog, nakamura,)

what im trying to say is that ufc is never the same with what styles are the best while muay thai is already at the best and probably wont change in thailand

people used to say 'high kicks are dangerous because u can get your leg grabbed'' but now u see alot of the ufc knockout highlights on spike tv are high kicks to the head. even tim sylvia used them with prettty well. even shogun plays around with the people he fights doing 360 kicks (like when he fought rampage) cus hes not scared to go to the ground.

if a good ufc /pride fighter trained with thais they would only get better.

I think MMA is becoming too white washed and that the new generation is pretty much just being fed it's standup from the older. I think great clinchwork and good elbows and knees would really shine in MMA. However, most fighters, even in the UFC and Pride, can't throw a knee with good technique (you don't lean back). However, when you have good athleticism and learn how to just throw down, technique isn't always all that important, especially when your opponent has none.

It's going to be slow to come if ever. There is just too much resistance from a fixed way of thinking. I've heard and this is a damn near verbatim quote , " What can I learn from watching a fight between 2 135lbs guys?" With that mentality, I guess nothing. You can train all you want but if you have preconceived notion set in concrete nothing will change.

Good points MAX.

i like how the thais fight, but in england full rules muay thai shows, the guys really have wars, spinning elbows back fists, running kicks.....i cant wait till they show it again

Yeah I've seen some wakeling fights..good stuff

The Japanese song didn't really fit with the Thai fighting. Also, the title is misleading, because REAL muay thai looks different according to different fighters' preferences. Some like throwing hands more (e.g. Anuwat, Dekkers, Coban) whereas others like kicks better (e.g. most).

I think he was saying REAL muay thai as in compared to the crap you see in the UFC.

They also get destroyed and played with whenever Thais go over there to fight.

Although elbows were a little more frequent in "free-striking" range, I don't think they were any more effective.

ofcourse, but i think the english MT style is a lot more creative and they really try to use as many techniques as they can, there was one guy fighting out of bad company who could beat the thais (well the ones he went against) never caught his name

I don't see much in the way of creativity to be perfectly honest. Outside of Kieran Keddle and Harper most seem content to go toe to toe in basically a toughman contest. I saw very little in the way of any refined technique when there was any. There are some notables in the UK for sure but I would say creativity or technique is not especially a characteristic of UK Muay Thai.
