once a week? once a month?

apologies for the vagueness of the question, im new to thai boxing

1-2 x a week. Depends on how long, as someplace you might spar for 16-20 rounds 1 or 2 times a week, other places you might spar 5-6 rounds 4 times a week.
Basically, the more the better, but power and skill level should always be taken into account.

Sparring is good, but if you do too much sparring and too little technique, drills and conditioning, you're only shooting yourself in the foot.

we spar once a week but we also do light sparring 3-4 times a week

Spar as much as you can with anyone that is willing. As it has been stated in previous post you must also work on technique. But that is what sparring is supposed to being. Using your technique in a live fire situation. You can not spar too much. It is the closest thing to a fight. That is the time you have a controlled condition to work out flaws in your technique.work on your weaknesses and build endurance at the same time. It is my belief that if you take the time to go to the gym you should spar.

I spar every time I go to class. Alot of it depends on goals do you want to fight? That makes a big difference. If you want to fight I would spar as much as possible as well as pad/bag work.

Once a week for an hour, decent speed/power. If we get the chance, we'll sometimes go a few light rounds just for fun a few times a week. More if you plan on fighting however.

some of you guys spar an awful lot. Sparring is good, but too much of it can definitely hurt you. Going into a fight you are gonna spar more than normal. There is no magic number, but esp for a beginner i would stress drills and technique for a while before you spar. couple weeks before you even spar, otherwise only thing you are gonna learn by sparring is how to eat punches, which you will learn when you spar anyhow even when you know what you are doing.

Yeah, I used to spar around four or five days a week and it does seem to wear you out. Too much cumulative damage when you are just training. When you are getting ready for a fight that is way different.

How ever much your body will let you. Sparring is how you get good. Spar as many guys as you can from all different weights, heights etc. I am older now so I can't spar but maybe once a week or once every two weeks. The days I do spar, I try to spar a few guys.

I agree, once a week it should be very full on, light sparring is good too but some people are all or nothing so it can be difficult

Imo sparr as much as you can with warming up on some mits and pads.........when you feel yourself going stagnent stop for a while and work totally on new and better tecqnique.

Depends on how hard you and your camp spars. Some camps believe in "training smart" at least that is what they call it, and they don't hit or kick hard at each other, they do it more for timing. With those kinds of camps you could and should spar everyday if you can. With the more "hardcore" camps where you can and do get your bell rung a lot you probubly shouldn't spar more then once a week, twice if you are gifted at defense. But with the hardcore camps you shouldn't spar anywhere near a fight date. Just my opinion.

P.S. Just my opinion again, but if you don't have to ice and have a headache after a sparring session, you didn't really spar!

I think you should spar lightly a lot and everytime and sometimes go harder.
