I never in a million years thought I'd be posting in this forum, but I need to know. I actually watch my weight and try to eat relatively healthy considering that I'm almost 22, and I'm not really physically active in an intentional sense. I'm 5'11" - 6' 168lbs. I try to hover around the 165 range by watching my diet. Soda is a daily part of my lifestyle. I also drink Long Islands every 1-3 weeks depending on what's going on.

.... Soda? .... Regular Soda?

Um..

I'd have to go with.... 1 can is 1 can too many.

why don't you just switch to diet? alot of people on here seem to have a problem with it, but i drink it daily and don't see any major problems with it. way better for you then regular.

and i doubt the long islands will do much damage if its only every couple of weeks.

I don't switch to diet because I don't see the point. I work in teh food service industry. In the least insulting way I can say this. The only people that drink diet products are the people that need a lot more than diet products to fix their problem. I just don't see what's so diet about diet drinks. If the only thing that makes them diet is the sugar than that's like taking the nicoteen(sp) out of cigarettes and saying that they are more healthy for you. They've got hundreds of poisonous chemicals in them. It's not just a nocoteen problem.

The sugar is the worst part of soda. You're basically drinking sugar. If you can't see the benefits of limiting your sugar intake, take a trip around this forum-read some old threads, read the faqs.

If you still feel the way you do then don't bother coming in here and asking for advice. To use your analogy, its like a cigarette smoker asking how many cigarettes is too many.

You shouldn't see a point to drinking soda, as it has no nutritional value.

The problem with drinking regular soda vs. drinking diet soda is that when you are drinking regular soda you are drinking your calories.

You want to eat your calories. Like a man.

well i actually prefer the taste of diet soda, can't even drink the regular stuff anymore. weird i know, my ex bf used to make fun of me for it all the time. anyway the point of diet soda in your case would be to cut back on calories. a can of soda has like 160 calories or something so if you drink like 2 of those a day thats over 300 calories a day right there. switch to diet and you'll lose weight.

Stop drinking pop. Or you'll get the...

What's wrong with water? And how can soda be "a part of your lifestyle?" WTF lifestyle is that? I have news for you, drinking soda is not a lifestyle, it's just a habit. And a lazy, unhealthy one at that. Granted, it's not as bad as cigarettes, but still. If you work in the food service industry, then you can't tell me you don't have options. Drink water, or milk, or unsweetened tea.

That's a stupid generalization to make. Probably not even right, either. A huge majority of people would lose a ton of weight if they gave up caloric drinks in exchange for water and didn't displace the daily calorie loss with more food..

There are also tons of amateur and professional athletes that drink diet soda on a regular basis.

That's got to be one of the worst lines of reasoning I've ever seen in this Forum. Congratulations.

The "Zero" lines of everything FTW.

Actually, it is far more like taking the (harmful) tar out of them. Nicotine, taken correctly, is a suppliment.

While you will still get an insulin spike from diet soda, without the sugar there it wont do a whole lot of bad other than reduce weight loss if you are dieting. The fact remains though that they are 0 cals while a can of soda is a few hundred cals or pretty much equal to one entire meal.....without any of the nutrition.

I dont know - I think 20 sodas a day is worse than a pack of cigarettes in the long run. If you look at one cigarette = to one soda? I used to smoke, and a pack a day for a week will probably do less damage than 20 sodas a day for a week lol. But no one drinks 20 sodas anyway, and obviously cigarettes are worse, but soda is pretty damn evil.

I agree, I was going to say in some ways it's worse, but yeah, I know exactly what you're saying. I quit smoking 18 months ago (a month before my baby was born). I quit chewing, which was mainly to help me quit smoking, about 10 months ago. I quit drinking soda except occasionally about a year ago, and started drinking nothing but water a couple weeks ago. I feel a hell of a lot better now than I did a year and a half ago.

20 no, but about a yeat bad i was drinking 10-15 pops or glass of juice a day. I would go threw a frozen can of orange juice a night and think it was ok.

i then found this forum, dropped pop/juice and only drink water and ive lost 50 pounds with doing some training along side of correcting my diet.

I have a pop once in like 2-3 weeks when i get a bit of a sugar craving, but i honestly can say the last 4 pops ive opened i havent been able to finish them. i drink only water now and its way better after you get over the sugur craving your body gives you.
