I feel like I’ve seen a lot of fighters catching flack in here for bumping fists too much in the ring. What is acceptable etiquette? Do we all agree it’s this:

Bumping fist just after the opening bell is fine.

There should be no bumping fists otherwise during the round.

In the last round, IF it has truly been a war, the fighters can walk to the center and bro hug or even do full embrace, but ONLY in a true war of a fight.

Post fight they can express respect however they like.

Agreed?

Endless bro-hugs in the middle of a fight should = DOUBLE disqualification.

Pat Barry vs Cro Cop is an example of too much respect.

CroCop vs Pat Barry type stuff is pretty shitty to watch in my opinion.

Respect has no place in this sport while a fight is happening. That includes even things like the simple fist bump they do at the beginning of each round. Save all the respect shit for when the fight is over.

What about before and after a contest? What about kissing?

What I came to say, Barry learned real fast you have no friends in that cage, he could have possibly won that fight too, Cro Cop choked him with the quickness.

Only people that get mad are the ones that never train/trained

It all depends...
The American and Brazilian Cowboys had a love fest but that fight was good!

Zero respect. I would act exactly like Ronda did against tate if I ever get into the UFC

I have zero problem with displays of respect during the fight. As long as they still give maximum effort, that's all that matters. Scott Smith and Pete Sell had a full on bromance, but they still delivered one of the most epic fights/finishes of all time.

One fist bump, max two is ok (one at the beginning of the fight and one after the ending)

More than that or constant hugging starts to get gay.

hugging and fist bumping during rounds takes the competition aspect out of it, the fight loses the edge for the moment imo
seems like two guys who are just happy to be there and sparring

Got quite tired of seeing that crap in the wonderboy/till fight. Get the hell outta here with that shit. Also not a fan of that crap justin thomson was doing towards the end of his run in the ufc, constantly smiling, making stupid faces, and talking to his opponents while getting tagged.

I agree. As soon as you start bumping fists it means that you're looking at the whole thing as a sporting event rather than a fight. Yes it is a sport, but the goal of this particular sport is literally to beat the opponent senseless. As soon as you bump fists it is basically taking you out of the mental state that you should be in. The only thing you should be doing when the round starts is focusing on your bad intentions.

In sparring I think you should always bump fists at the beginning, because it is in fact the signal that you will show respect and restraint.

I feel that the bumping fists in an actual fight is mixing up sparring with the big event.

There is also the technical aspect that bumping fists can cause a bit of confusion (and it has in real fights) on when the fight actually starts and also impacts the ability for the fighters to really do their initial approach and range-finding properly. refer to:
