I strongly feel that you can not be successful in bjj unless you have confidence.

how much do you think confidence plays into bjj

If you do not know the techniques and/or physical attributes , then confidence is not a factor in BJJ.

it's a leap of faith, like that first armbar from mount went you just have to jump and swing your leg over and hope something good happens LOL.

well if its the first time then it's not gonna look very pretty. i don't mean literally jump, but swinging your leg over to clear the guy's head

    Lol +1

If you drill enough you just do things without realizing it. Doing something out of confidence requires a thought process. Muscle memory doesn't..

    Make sense?

I think a true confidence grows with ones skill and experience with certain techniques, skills, etc...and I think that true confidence adds substance and strength to that skill. In this way I kind of think that confidence and other mental aspects are part of technique just as mug as a hip shift or the placement of a hook is.

You have to learn to trust your Jiu Jitsu. Otherwise you hesitate or don't seize opportunities. When you trust your Jiu Jitsu you go for it - you flow between offense and defense naturally. Is that confidence?

    Peace,

Get your grips, use your shoulder for pressure and whisper something dirty to the mat as you pass...

BJJ is 32% confidence, 58% technique, 34% strength, 27% sweat, 14% perspiration, 64% slipperiness, 26% flexibility and 19% gi patches.

Your math is off. Some of these things just don't add up - gi patches are way more than 19%

Damn, I thought I was a badass giving 110%. You are giving 274%...that is like 50% more than I am giving!

I better get off this computer and start pushing my self to the limit!

I'll take habit over confidence every time.

Mat time builds the only confidence that counts in BJJ. You wont be confident until you are successful.
