Lets say X fighter gets paid 30k. What percentage of his purse goes to his coach, training partners, medical expenses, food, overall training expenses?
I think the industry standard is 10% for coaching/gym , so there goes $3000.
Lets say you pay 2 guys for you to spar hard with during camp. You pay them another $3000.
Transportation/Accommodations for fight Team for 5 days approximately. Another $3000
Then say $1000 for various expenses(Food, Equipment, Gym memberships, etc)
You fight 3x/per year. You win 2/3 of the fights. Making it 20k+20k+7k=47k after expenses
You are able to deduct the training expenses, but you still fall into the 25% bracket which comes out to a 16% effective tax rate, taking another roughly 7.5k
47k- 7.5k. 39.5k take home or about $750 a week, just a few grand more then average US individual income. Enough for a single person sure, but for a someone who wants a family its not probably not enough.
sad
