Always say it’s not what u make but what you take home. I make decent dough but due to my pos state, union dues, health ins, and tier contributions my check gets smoked

In order to clear 1000 in a week I gotta gross about 1600. I’m not saying that’s what I make and I’m not asking what u make...just what it would take to clear 1000. I had a job in the past which only took about 1400 to clear 1000.

add dependents if you have any. Being married will help a little.

You can also have your employer take out a fixed tax amount.

About 1400-1500. After taxes, benefits, RRSP (401k), and employment insurance.

I am married and we actually pay more than when single. We both make good money

What state?

I gotta make 1600 and that’s without 401k. So if I’m also taking out 10% 401k I gotta make like fkn 1750 to clear 1000

really? Even making the same salary? If thats the case, you need to talk to an attorney.

For real. CPA told me it’s normal and well known

Before married our returns added up to 9k

After married we paid in the same and combined refund was 7k

try to fight that. You should be paying less taxes

probably about 1400 or maybe 1600 when the union takes its cut once a month.

I pay 28% in taxes and put 6% in 401k. Then another few beans towards health insurance. I usually figure whatever my gross is I cut in half and add a little.

Too many variables. Basically you need to look at....

1) Federal tax rate
2) State tax rate (if it applies to you)
3) Tax Witholdings
4) Other - Which includes everything else you may possibly pay into (social security, medicare, SDI, retirement, pension, health insurance, dental, vision, other forms of insurance or disability, flex spending, other fees)

What you make is definitely extremely important with the noted variables above. Yes, what you take home matters, but you have to look at the entire package. My wife for example maxes out her retirement/TSP ($18k), maxes out daycare flex spending ($5k), puts into health flex spending ($1-2k I think), Health Insurance Premium (~$5k), Pays into Social Security, Medicare, % towards her pension on top of federal/state taxes. Even the Retirement/Flex Spending/Health Insurance combined is already at $30k per year.
