My Opinions On MMA Related Topics:
PrideFC vs. UFC:
Pride was better. But in retrospect, a lot of the love of Pride is nostalgic and it’s not quite as awesome as most of remember….and yes, some fights were rigged.
Dana White:
I cannot stand him. He is a narcissistic, chauvinistic, homophobic terrible person. People often credit him by saying things like, “Yeah, he is a loudmouth, but that’s why I love him, he speaks his mind.” One can speak one’s mind and still have tact. People also credit him for “Making this sport what it is.” But A) I credit the sport being where it is to the Fertittas a 1000 more times than I do to Dana who didn’t even want to do TUF by the way, B) The way I see it, Dana isn’t and never has been trying to help the SPORT, he is been trying to help his POCKET, which is fine because he is a business man. But let’s stop crediting a guy for trying to help the sport when he seems to go out of his way to discredit the athletes of the sport and systematically take away the sporting aspects of the sport by encouraging fighters to give up intelligent strategies and game plans to instead just go out there and brawl.
My Top Ten Favorite Fighters of All time Roughly in Order:
GSP
Fedor Emelianenko
Igor Vovchanchyn
Genki Sudo
Kazushi Sakuraba
Amir Sadollah
Takanori Gomi
Randy Couture
Oleg Taktarov
Cain Velasquez
GSP vs. Hendricks:
It’s a sport that roughly simulates fighting, but is not an actual street fight. So you score it based on the rules of the sport. GSP understood and utilized those rules better than Hendricks because he has a higher fight IQ, and as a result he deservedly won. Had the rules been different and the sport was scored on face damage, Hendricks would have won, but then again, GSP, with his higher fight IQ, probably would have chosen a different strategy.
Women’s MMA:
I love it. I think it’s still in it’s infancy, but it is starting to emerge and as it does, we will see the women get better and the talent pool get deeper. I think at least some of the women today could have been competitive in the original UFC tournaments frankly. I’m guessing Rhonda would have slapped Joe Son around easily.
UFC In General:
I like one thing and one thing only about the UFC, it overall has the best competitors in the sport and thus the most intriguing fights. Otherwise, I hate the UFC. I hate how it’s promoted, I hate the president, I hate trash talk, pre fight videos, I hate that the sport still uses ring girls, I hate the Just Bleed fans. How much you ask? Well two days ago, my sister, who has connections at SAP Center (formerly HP Pavilion), offered me four free tickets to go see tonight UFC. I said, “No thanks. I don’t like being around the meathead fans.” But the next day she offered me four free tickets to have my own box suite, so I accepted, because I’m a proud MMA Hipster.
