I think the common perception is that if a fight is even on strikes then whoever lands the most takedowns wins the round, but when one guy is outstruck for the round and then squeezes a takedown in to tactically steal that round, what is the deficit in strikes that is allowed before the guy who actually landed more strikes and found more success during the round wins it? It’s this wishy washy area that leaves fans speechless sometimes.
In tonight’s main event for example we see that Reyes outstruck Jones 3 rounds to 2, and none of the rounds that Jones won warranted a 10 8. Jones got a few takedowns in the rounds that people feel Reyes won, but Reyes immediately got back to his feet and took no damage at all doing so. It looked like after Reyes won those first 3 rounds Jones needed a finish, and honestly had he lost it would have been great to see a revitalised Jones come back for a rematch with more killer instinct.
