How many Ppv buys do you think it has to do to prove Connors a draw? Will any amount actually prove it?

His last Ppv where he didn't headline or co headline did poorly I think about 250k.

This ufc 189 is the most promoted event ever.
It has Jose Aldo drawing Brazilian fans
It has Rory Macdonald fighting for the title bringing Canadian fans
Has Robbie lawler defending his title bringing American fans
It has a stacked card

How many Ppv buys does it need to get in order for it to be successful?

If the event draws well does it prove Connors a draw?

I would say with the amount of marketing and 2 title fights plus stacked card anything under 700k-800k buys would bE below expectations.

Unlike Silva, gsp, rowsey, Chuck etc. I still haven't heard conors name in casual conversation, and Aldo has never been a draw.

That being said, it's a huge card for fans and I expect it to do very well.

It's gonna be like saying Rousey is a huge draw with Anderson on the card with her.

The 189 card is the best UFC card in a long time. Of course it'll sell, with or without McGregor.

Viewers in Canada and Brazil don't count in the PPV numbers.

Conor is a draw, period.

The PPV will do no lower than 700k. Wait until after 188, we all will be sick of UFC 189 ads by the time the fight comes. Conor will be slapped across ESPN and other media outlets.

There is no way it does lower than what I said- partly because of Conor, but mostly because of the amount of money they'll be spending promoting it.

They're putting a lot of money into Conor, hoping he wins, facing the 145 GOAT. I have a feeling this is gonna blow up in the UFCs face when Aldo merks Conor for 5 rounds

really?

I'm the only person of my close friends that watch MMA (I'm actually mocked for it lol), but even my buddies ask me about that 'Irish fighter with the shitty tattoo".

I'm predicting 600k low, 700-800k being optimistic but somewhat realistic. 800-900 being more optimistic. 1million being Conor.

If McGregor breaks his leg today and Aldo fights a substitute (any substitute) at UFC 189, they lose a half million buys. It goes from 900k-1mil to 500k overnight.

WW title alone would bring 300k buys.
Bermudez, Brown and Nelson in the undercard promise some fan-friendly fights with recognisable name.

Aldo-McGregor received a HUGE media push with all the promotional weeks, Connor documentaries and all the other promotional stuff. If they don't bring another 500k buys, it means McGregor just doesn't sell.

So anything below 800k buys would be a failure, I'd say.

I'm thinking 800k tops. 500k will be for Rory vs Lawler

We know aldo and MM do the worst ppv numbers in ufc history. If this show does over 400k its proof. The live gate is already proof

Its hard to guess with the fight being a ways out but i would go with over 700k

Brazil no because they have a TV deal but Brazilian Americans.

Why wouldn't Ppv buys in Canada be included? Of course they are

You're right. For some reason I thought the UFC had a Brazil style broadcast deal in Canada. Still not sure if Meltzer includes Canadian cable TV systems in his numbers.

well, it's hard to say how accurate his numbers are anyway, since the UFC never officially confirms or denies them.

But those using Google Trends will have difficulty due to the number of international fans. The free TV ratings will be available and I expect it to do huge numbers in Brazil and Ireland.

PPV buys over all will probably be in the 750k-1mil range, depending on how the hype machine works out for them. They've put everything they have into it, and it's working to a certain extent because friends of mine who like MMA but don't follow it much are asking me about the Aldo/Conor fight. They aren't even aware the Lawler/Rory fight is on the card because it hasn't been nearly as hyped as the Aldo/Conor fight. And as scripted as some of the "drama" seems, it sells. The card will probably be their best selling card until UFC 200 comes around, and you *know* they're putting Conor on that card, win or lose at 189.

hmm, to prove he's a draw I would say around 750k. I expect it to beat that though, this fight is going to be hella hype by the time July rolls around.

Aldo's last card did sub 200 I think...400k+ would be a nice number for a card headlined by 145. Maybe 600k since a WW title is on the line as well.
