Hello, never done gi-grappling before, so wanted to know how many gis you guys have, and how often do you wash them? In no-gi grappling I have the luxury of wearing something different(shirt, rash guard, shorts) everytime I roll without it killing my bank account. I figure depending on what I read in here, it'll sway my decision to buy 1 or 2 really nice gold/platinum weave gis, or just buy like 4-5 cheap single weaves.

PS. obviously for the first month or so I'll just buy 1 cheap gi to make sure gi-grappling is what I want to do, but this question is more for after that first month.

Responding to the how many washes question...you need to wash your gi every single time after class or before wearing it to another class.

In other words, wear a washed gi to class every single time.

I have a $240 Toraki gold and have had a $99 special and don't really remember noticing a difference 'except for' damage from wash.

Should wash it every time after you train in it. Or just hang it up and have a smell. Just make sure it is dry before class.

Buy extra gi pants tho. They'll outlast a gi top.

You'll have no choice but to wash the gi after every class. I only have one gi and after class it is nasty enough that I can't even wait until the next day to wash it.

I use the gentle cycle most of the time and it seems to be holdiing up well.

I have a bunch of gis.

I have a royce edition Atama Single Weave
a Red Nose Blue Single Weave
A Atama White bleached with flags gold weave.
and about 3 Century judo double weaves.

Yeah you have to wash your gi after every time you train or it gets very smelly even if you don't prespire much. about 4 years ago in High School I would try to get away with washing my gi once a week. Yeah, lets just say friends stopped wanting to ride with me during lunch break. ..

I rotate 3 Atama double weave gis. Like eveybody else said, wash your gi after every class. There is nothing worse than rolling with some stink ass that doesn't wash his gi.

I have about 5 kurktki and 2 gis. I teach six days a week so, I need them. I wash them after every class. Fresh one for every new class. You have to wear a washed jacket in each class - no question. Regarding gis, I love my Dax. I have sereval kurtki - from light to heavyweight. I would suggest getting various weights. I like to put on the light ones on hot, humid NYC days.

i rotate 3 gis and i wash every time. 3 feels like overkill sometime. if i was on a tighter budget, i could get away with 2 gis and not feel stressed about washing.

i'm glad to see so many people talking about washing every time. i hate rolling with "the stinky kid".

You probably really only need two gis.

It's not that hard to just throw it in the washer after class. While it's drying, you can wear the other one the next day. Just keep cycling them this way.

The thing about having like five gis is that you can't wash them all at once anyway. Two gis is about the max a washer is going to hold.

i've been getting compliments about how "white" my white gis are. i roll a TON. those things get abused. woolite has done a really nice job of keeping them white.

I have 3 gis and wash them after every training.
We've had some problems at my club in the past with skin diseases and not washing your gi is the best way to spread around anything you contract yourself.

I have two, a white one and a blue one. They are both from JudoStar. They're cheap, but they don't feel bad. I wash them both, separately, on the same day to give me a couple extra days before washing again. The white one was $46 and the blue one was $57. -ken

i have one hck double weave and i wash it after every class

right now i only train 2 days a week and after wrestling season next year i'll have to get another one because im gonna start training 5 days a week
