How long until horse racing is banned?

This.

Owning a horse is part of showing you are rich and have class. Owning an award winning horse further strokes the ego of rich people that own them.

Not going to get banned just because poor people whine about it.

EDIT:
Zoo, Circus and another animal "entertainment", as mentioned itt by other posters, will go first because they are catered to average Joes. Just look at sports hunting in Africa, they paid large sums of money to kill an supposedly "old" animal because it "saves" the species because of that. What logic is that?

Animals in a well run zoo are going to have a far better existence than your average cow. Ditto a fighting bull, a racing horse etc etc.

We're all hypocrites (to varying levels) when it comes to this kind of thing.

I fully agree with your last sentence.

But..
Zoo animals lives a far better life, according to human perspective.
We believe that getting to eat food, not worrying about being hunted/hurt is good for animals. But that's human belief/standards. Given a chance, most of these Zoo animals will run out of captivity, but unfortunately die off because they no longer have the ability to feed themselves. Animals are wired to procreate as much as they can. Not get stucked with the same two to three buddies in the cage for 30 years.

Look at the worldwide crisis now.
Humans are advised to stay home, eat our delivered food and not worry about getting interaction by infected. Yet people are screaming for freedoms and wanting to get outside. Similar to the Zoo animals but not being able to make their own choice.

That's not the worst part. The often semi-injured, shot up with drugs, and forced to run where they often then break a leg and are euthanized.

Santa Anita has had over 100 horses die either during warmup or races.
yep, still in operation.
no one gives a fuck.

ok one celebrity does

It’s legal organized crime, it isn’t going anywhere even though t should.

False propaganda.
All that trouble and then they used Sporses to raid Palpatines new space Armada.

Hey horse, you tired of running fast on a track? We're the good guys, come on, we're gonna ride you into gunfire when you're a less effective transport option than a vehicle! We caaaaaare about youuuuuuu!

Been to a horse track a few times and it's a blast.

Beer and food aren't too badly priced and $1 min bets add to the fun of the race.

I think its actually weird it exists in the first place.
I wonder how many other animals they tried to ride and race before settling on horses.
Id like to see that documentary.

Why is that surprising, for the longest time it was the fastest way human could get around and the only way people could travel long distances. We race just about every mode of transport since, so I don't why it's weird we started to do it.

Hoping it goes by the wayside just like the circus. It is 2020 and we have video games and free porn; there is no reason to turn to animal abuse for our entertainment with such superior alternatives at our disposal.

Agree.

How much do the whippings horses get in races hurt? How much does it hurt a horse to ride it? If the answer is less than or equal to rough housing with your cat or dog, I'd say you have your answer.

On the other hand, I imagine horses being mostly owned by the rich has lowered their sympathy factor to randoms.

I think the current rule limits whip use to 5 during the race before the 100m mark, and only every other stride in the last 100m. These rules get broken all the time though, there's only a fine and it's not really substantial enough.

I'm sure things will change when a jockey whips the shit out of a horse and wins a really big race, there'll be an outcry and the whip will get banned.
michelle payne beat the shit out of her horse to win, and she got a movie made about her afterwards.

CONGRATULATIONS!

Horses run to get away from predators, that's what the whipping is about, it's the predator getting at their flanks. It's why they will run to death if pushed.

Horse people will tell you it's not that bad. Sounds like they are indoctrinated into a pretty poor practice imo.

have you seen a horse? them things are beasts as long as the whipping isn't excessive I'm sure it's like a slap on the booty. Like a full on whip from a distance is different.
