I walked around at 6'5 270 pounds for the last few months. gained a lot of weight during the holidays and quit smoking.

Aniway I've been dieting/doing cardio for the last month and have droped more than 10 pounds already. I was thinking of droping to about 240 before starting lifting and getting a good muscle definition, since im fairly new to weight lifting.

What I want is to be as fit as possible right now with little body fat and a 6 pack when I start lifting. Should I drop more weight before hitting the weights or not?

The best advice I can give you is to take a look at this website where your questions are already answered.

There is a section on "caloric deficits and fat loss" here:

http://www.hussmanfitness.com/html/TSCalDeficits.htm

and I suggest poking around the rest of the site too. Some really good stuff on there.

Hitting the weights will burn more calories. Start hitting the weights as soon as possible. A good site to look up things on Diet, and lifting is www.t-nation.com.
