I went to my new grappling school on Monday, and watched my friend from high school wrestling with UFC champion, Manvel Gamburyan. My friend caught him in an ankle lock, and wanted to let go, but Manvel told him to keep going. Bad idea. My friend pulled, and Manvel immediately tapped out in pain, and didn't grapple the rest of the night.

We all hope it's nothing serious, but what happens if it is? Does that kind of stuff take a long time to recover from?

Depends ankle locks can be anywhere from a few days to months. Was it top side or bottom side because top side can damage the knee pretty bad.

edit- wait, WHAT??? I must have been tired and misread the first time.

Are you trying to say that your friend who is still in high school did a trial class at Hayastan and not only submitted Manny Gamburyan, but fucked up his leg because he refused to tap?

I'll give you a 3/10 because I read it wrong the first time and you had three straight replies before I re-read it.

Also, I must be behind the times because now apparently Gamburyan is the LW Champion?

I doubt your friend in high school fucked up an accomplished ankle lock specialist's ankle on his first night.

My friend and I are no longer in high school. He's 25. And he's been going to the Hayastan Academy for like 3 years. So he's not a complete noob. He says that normally he gets his butt kicked by Manvel all the time. But this time he got him.

Manny's not a ufc champion. I doubt he would let some guy ruin his career by ankle locking him. If this did happen, was it just a straight ankle lock? Could take weeks, at least it wasn't a heel hook and blew out his knee.

Come on guys it has to be true. I was going to stop by their gym to teach some ankle locks but I was delayed becase I was teaching Royce Gracie some basic guard submissions and Bas how to properly strike with an open hand. Tomorrow I am going by the boxing gym so I can give DelaHoya some boxing tips.

OP, one of two things is true:

    (A) You may possibly be full of crap, in which case you shouldn't have posted this.

    (B) You may possibly be telling the truth, in which case you shouldn't have posted this. Not so cool to tell tales of who tapped / snapped who in training, because there are way too many factors that you are unlikely to be aware of, e.g., Manny may have been working with him for weeks on finishing the ankle lock and gave him the setup on purpose so he could work on the finish.

If you really meant for this to be a question about recovery time for ankle locks, you could have asked it just as well without any names.
