How in the hell did Aldo eat this shot?

The guy really has a chin on him. That uppercut would've probably floored nearly every 145er on the roster.

Also almost instantly regaining composure after this shot

Besides that flash KD, has Aldo ever really been in trouble in the striking game? That was what really shocked me in the Mendes rematch.

An uppercut from McGregor in that clip would knock him silly. There would be no recovery.

McGregor KO/TKO late round 2 or early round 3.

Even when Jose Aldo gets knocked down, his TDD instinct automatically kick in and he springs right up hahaha

But Mendes made great use of feinting his level changes and disguising his punches.
Aldo reacts to every movement that resembles a takedown.

Hell of a chin. Mendez has soften Aldo up for McGregor.

Indeed. Mendes did a great job feinting and even outboxed Aldo for some portion of the fight. Aldo is just a beast though.

Aldo has a very good chin on him. But this uppercut here isn't good proof of that. Chad stops the punch as it makes contact instead of punching through the target (his chin). He also wound up entirely too much in the technique to where it looks exaggerated. The latter has already been talked about in breakdowns.

A punch doesn't always have to be perfectly fundamentally sound to be dangerous. But yeah, Aldo does have a great chin. Mendes hit him with some big punches in that fight.

aldo has a great chin for sure but the punch looks a bit more like an after-thought, i am not sure it had the snap on it that it could've if he threw it with a bit more purpose. you can see him stop for a split second when he ducks down and then throw from that squat position, rather than having a good fluid punch

That uppercut landed right on the chin too.

He faked a takedown and threw an uppercut knowing that Aldo would hunch down to defend, I'm pretty sure.

That's just show you how good and dangerous Mendes really is. Aldo still one of the best.

Those gifs help the notion that Conor is going to put him out.

yeah i think you could be right. i'm not going to pretend to have pro knowledge of the mechanics of the uppercut but i think that stop start would've taken some of the momentum out of it

it was a good, accurate punch that got it's mark but i think perhaps the context makes it look better than it is (chad mendes landing it on jose aldo... i don't know if that really would've floored just about anyone in the division...? who knows)

If that happened at 155, he would have been out.

I'm wondering why Mendez didn't follow up the uppercut with a straight left, or a left hook?? Instead he just admired his work....seems like a missed opportunity
