Is there a gif of Gustafsson doing this to Jones? How he was able to do that in the last round against a wrestler like Jones if he was more gassed than Jones? Is Gustafsson just so damn strong or was Jones even more tired at that point? I thought that moment was awesome.

good scrambling ability by gustafsson but also Jones was extremely tired at that point.
if jones had got gustafsson down earlier in the fight who knows? we will never know because he tried and failed miserably to take him down throughout the fight.

It's funny in a way. Gus wasn't tired enough earlier for Jones to takedown. By the time Jones gets the takedown he is to tired to control Gus from standing back up right away. Grueling battle.

Interesting and cool list of favorite fighters. I like diff fighters for different things too.

Anyways, Gus was certainly making a more conscious effort to stop takedowns against JJ than Shogun. Shogun has pretty good takedowns though.

I think so too that Jones was really tired at that point. Its interesting because we mainly hear how tired Gustafsson was in the last round but I think that moment proved Jones was at least as tired as Gus. Jones just fought more flatfooted so Gus was the one looking more like a drunken grandpa on the feet.

Agree wholeheartedly with this. It was pretty obvious when they both walked away from the octagon as well who was the more exhausted. Epic fight either way.

Vikings were known to drink lots of milk due to the cooler climates allowing milk to be stored longer and hence were on average many inches taller than the people from the civilizations they raided.

If Jones was just "almost" as tired he should have managed to keep Gus down but Gus got up really fast. Jones couldnt do nothing but hold on just like Shogun in that gif.

Anyone have that gif Gus dragging Jones?

Jones has the build and wrestling style that works best against smaller guys he can muscle up on and use leverage against in the clinch. He doesn't have super strong hips or a really strong double. Alex made it hard for him to really get a solid hold of him and had strong enough hips to prevent him from dragging him down against the cage with his hands behind his hips.

He prolly does it to Davis so he's like "I'll do this on jones to" He's just knows he can do it.

Gus exhibited great TDD defense and scrambling. You could see he knew that if Bones took him down, it wouldn't be pretty. Other fighters (not just LHW's) could do well to work on their footwork after watching Gus's. To answer the question, both guys looked really gassed from the end of the 2nd on.

Gus is stronger than Jones, basically. Which is crazy considering the difference in wrestling backgrounds.

Both men were dog tired but other than Gus' shrimping it was Jones looking to pass over maintaining control.

Jon had passed to side control as Gus was trying to get to the fence.

Trained a long time with Davis, which obviously upped his game. Also, Jones was simply tied. AG just had to have the will to stand back up.
