When Mark Hunt came in to PRIDE he had 5-3 on his record with a noteable win over Wanderlei Silva and Mirko Cro Cop. He had 8-8 in UFC but has a noteable wins over Derrick Lewis ,Frank Mir and Antonio Silva.

For starting a mma-career after a K-1 career and fought for the PRIDE and UFC title fights i must say i am impressed.

    Questions below

    - How would Mark Hunt don Heavyweight grand prix 2004 if his first opponent was Semmy Schilt?
    - Would Mark become a heavyweight champion if he was training more BJJ in Brazil back in 2005 with Brazilian top team?
    - Would Mark Hunt do well if he was fighting in Bellator back in 2012?

Others are far more knowledgeable than i am on him, but his biggest opponents were always the fact he completed clean against many juicers and never had sound grappling defense, no?

Still he was a scary as fuck striker in his day.

    1. Semmy wins even back then
    2. In the UFC? Yes. In PRIDE? No.
    3. Cole Konrad would've abused him

Mark Hunt was always a dangerous guy to fight against with his power and his durability. He even gave Fedor a lot of trouble before ultimately getting subbed. His biggest weaknesses were his grappling and motivation.

I don't think he'll beat Semmy Schilt, as Semmy was a better striker with really good range control, so unless Mark Hunt suddenly became a D1 wrestler Semmy would win comfortably.

I think it's likely he would make a good run for the title if he trained with BTT in 2005. He would've finished the Americana on Fedor. He would also do well in Bellator in 2012. Again I think Mark Hunt himself is his biggest enemy. To quote Kimbo, the real enemy is da inna-me

I always felt he hit his "prime" in his UFC run.

Are you asking us how good was he? Or how good could he have been if he'd have done all of your scenarios?

I don't think he'd ever have been champ, I don't think much in his career would have been different, maybe if he trained BJJ earlier he'd have a slightly better record but he was able to avoid being subbed by Werdum in their fight pretty easily.

He'd have probably become Bellator Champ though, not sure who their best HW would have been at the time. Minakov? Green Volkov? Probably yeah.

He got pretty far with a very limited set of skills, and remained competitive well into the tail end of his career.

    Watch his fight against Fedor.

He had Fedor in all kinds of trouble.

He was an elite striker with an awful ground game for most of his career.

Its crazy how good his TDD got midway through his UFC career.

His record is deceiving as fuck.

He was a very good MMA fighter.

I'd say about a 50/50 fighter with lots of power and fought good competition. Most losses against notable guys and some good/great wins against others.

i don't think it's that crazy how good his TDD became. he's got built in advantages, he's short, wide as fuck, and has legs the size of tree trunks. it's going to be difficult to get up under somebody with such a low center of gravity.

I don't use the word overrated often, but it certainly applies to Hunt. The man won 13 of 29 bouts, but he had charisma and crazy finishes, so he got a rabid following. He was a great kickboxer though.
