How good is Yair Rodriguez?

Very good fighter (beats all but the elite) but he's too active for his own good, he needs to fight less often so he can actually heal and train in between fights.

If they make the Yair vs Volk rematch it would be really fucking annoying. Volk vs Evloev is more interesting, as is Yair vs Jean Silva. But Yair is one of those prima donnas that thinks he's to good to fight anyone, like Ryan Hall and Gregor Gillespie, so I'm sure he will deem Silva unworthy.

The Lopes fight would be great too. Just please not the Volk rematch...

The problem with Ryan Hall was people didn't want to fight him, not the other way around. Also, Ryan Hall's main source of income isn't from fighting, that hardly makes him a prima donna.

He was basically demanding a top ten based on his win over BJ, which without exaggeration was like a win over current Tony Ferguson.

Gillespie was even worse, retiring because they wouldn't give him like a top 3 based on his 1 fight winning streak over CDF.

ehhh sounds more like arnold allen or diego lopes based on your description
Diego can be good with some work but he has terrible IQ that can't be fixed easy. He looked decent Sat as Volk is clearly on slide n lost a step as prime Volk destroys Diego.

The real Fw champ is whoever wins between Evloev and Silva

I didn't realize how inactive Yair is, holy shit it's bad.
1 fight a year since 2021, except in 2023 when he got a title shot.
skipped 2020
2 fights in 2019 only because he eye poked Stephens the first time
1 fight in 2018
2 fights against washed BJ Penn and Edgar in 2017
2 split decisions and 2 finishes against a guy that was cut and another who only wins 50% of his fights in 2015-2016

I'm going to say he's a rank squatter that went under the radar. Don't get me wrong I like the guy's style but he's shown plenty of weaknesses it doesn't seem like he's fixed. I think he's been carefully choosing opponents and is still 1-3 since 2023. Crazy how he's #4 at FW.

He's very good standing. He's a problem for anyone on the feet, but he gets easily taken down & it's pretty much game over when it hits the ground.

Go back & watch the Frankie Edgar fight. Even Holloway wrestle fucked him.

Frankie Edgar fought Yair when he was not in his prime, which is why I did not mention it. It would be like me saying Yair does good against grapplers because he beat BJ Penn and Pitbull, who are incredible grapplers. Yair was only 23 years old when he fought Frankie Edgar, that was a big step up for him.

Volk did take down Yair a lot, but Volk still primarily beat him with boxing.

My argument isn't that Yair is not impossible to takedown, but you're writing it like he is Kevin Holland. For the most part, guys who took down Yair did it by softening him up with boxing and have largely beat his ass just by crowding him with combinations.

To be fair, I dont remember the Holloway fight that much, so I'll take your word for it. I know he used some wrestling, but I dont know if he primarily beat him with it.
Yair is like the number 6 dude who cant seem to break through. The Max fight Max indeed took the fight via wresling/grappling but I wouldn't say he tried to wrestle f him. 3rd round Holloway dropped him and got on top and almost subbed him with an arm triangle, then Yair gets back up and gets taken down towards the end of the round to take the round. 4th Holloway gets him in a guillotine standing and forces him to the ground and almost mounts him immediately and has control then towards the end Yair gets up and they trade. Basically the grappling set Holloway apart from Yair when it seemed like he would have beat Max in a strictly stand up fight.

Yair needs to work on getting back up more than anything IMO. His defense off his back is more him trying to catch fighters in something but if he doesn't it results in him getting his guard passed or blasted on the ground. There have been many fighters who are all offense off their back instead of trying to reset. Chase Hooper is someone I could see falling victim to this as he gets tougher non-geriatric fighters. I see him accepting getting taken down then losing rounds and the fight because of it.

Solid fighter but his TDD needs some more work. He has good offensive jiz and serviceable defensive jitz but a guy with strong top game and commitment to getting Yair down, will keep him there. Dude is way too squishy on the mat for a guy near the top of the pack. He needs to work more on scrambles and getting back to his feet. He may catch some one dimensional guys in a sub, but he'll get out muscled and bullied by fighters who will just break his posture and beat on him in his guard.

Ryan Hall blinks like someone is about to punch him

Very dangerous, but very flawed fighter.
He's got ridiculous physical attributes, good speed, massive for featherweight, insane leg dexterity, crazy enough stamina for him to consistently do his flashy stuff for 5 rounds and really good chin.
He's the kind of fighter that infuriates analyst because he doesn't have a clear process, but he's obviously very skilled at a very unusual fighting style that most guy he faces just aren't ready to fight him. Kinda like I would attribute some of Wonderboy success to being so different from the average MMA fighter, tho I rate wonderboy a lot more than Yair.
This allowed him to have a close fight with Max which is by far his greatest accomplishment imo, considering his resume is not great.
When comparing him to Max, Volk in an interview talked about how while he's dangerous, he can just be shut down if you do the right thing, while somebody like Max would make adjustments to counter his adjustments. I think that incapsulate him as a fighter pretty well.

His place in the featherweight top 5 for years can largely be attributed to matchmaking and innactivity.

Big hole in his game with the wrestling. Volk, ilia, and Max probably beat him every time.

His best legit win is Josh Emmett.

I think he is top 5-10 type fighter. I think he gets away with some holes in his game because this gen of fighters aren't heavy wrestling based.

I mean, he seems to be a killer. Idk why he's not even within the top 5, he needs to be top 3, 3 or 1... Idk. It seems he hides his performance in certain fights to get it all on fights that he wants the perception to be low. He has a style in which he hides things with his hands again, he has a leading distracting hands and is a kicking master, elite. And it's one of the first ones to get that kind of finish off his back in debute... He can hurt pro fighters real bad when he wants. He is there to play.

He loses to a lot of guys outside the UFC. he loses to Volk, Lopes, Holloway, Ortega, Allen, Evloev, Topuria, Silva etc inside the UFC. Outside it guys like Omarov, Parnasse, Abdullaev, Keita, Khizriev are for sure better too. Yair is a top 15-20 caliber talent really. Just popular due to style and desperation towards Mexican market.

How good is he? I mean what is good? My good is gonna be different from your good and and it's gonna be different from another's persons good

The real question we should be asking is what's the good question on whats good and such

Yeah yair is a legit fighter
Pretty good point.
