How good is Jose Aldo's ground game?

Can Jose Aldo beat Brian Ortega and Thiago Tavares in a pure BJJ match?

Same here. Only high school though. I have done no gi for years and have been training in a gi for about 3.

same, I don't think anyone knows how good aldo's bjj is now. He had some impressive stuff but thats like 10 years ago. Can't live of the past forever

He's not a ground specialist, he may have been at some point but not any more. The two guys you mentioned are guys who train BJJ more than anything, day in and day out. If Jose got Conor to the ground then I think his black belt would come into play but not against a grappling specialist.

His submission game perhaps. His passing is as good as anybody's in the UFC besides Maia. Jacare is close. Excellent positional grappler as well.

Dan Henderson is an Olympic wrestler who likes to stand and bang. Aldo is a BJJ black belt who prefers to stay standing and strike. There are countless other examples in MMA of fighters fighting outside their base.
Nick/Nate, Cerrone, Renan, and so on. They're a pretty good list lol

To be honest i dont even remember the last time i saw aldo on the ground
Off the top of my head, I can name six occasions where Aldo either mounted or back mounted a BJJ black belt:
Lamas (twice)
K-Flo (twice)
Mike Brown
Alexandre Franca Nogueira

Aldo destroyed Faber on the ground in their fight, too. People just remember the leg kicks.

You shouldn't. In the words of the immortal Ray Longo "He's a mothafucka" on the mat.

Ahha. I know he submitted a legit Black Belt years ago in a BJJ Match, I just want to see how he looks like now.

This.

Brian Ortega and Thiago Tavares train BJJ more than anything, day in day out.

Jose was a good grappler in the past, but now he trains striking mostly + TDD.(and it's been a long while since then)

How would Jose Aldo beat Brian Ortega, Thiago Tavares in a pure BJJ match?
How would he not? Cobrinha would absolutely own either Ortega or Tavares on the ground.

It's on a mythical level and when you see it you don't even realize it.

Looks like the majority of posters in this thread are typical in their noob-mess. Aldo has displayed great offensive and defensive BJJ in countless fights.

Unfortunately the Heavies is filled with guys who can't remember shit, or form opinions without any merit.

Do you guys remember Aldo mounting Faber three times in their fight and getting him in a crucifix for over a minute flat and pounding his face in? How about rocking MTB, pouncing on his back, flattening him out in seconds and getting a TKO win? Do you guys recall when he reversed and swept Florian's takedowns into full mount in their bout? How about when he mounted Mendes for even a few seconds off of a reversal in their second bout? He also mounted and took Lamas' back in the third round of their fight and nearly had a RNC.

There are even more instances but people just tend to remember the Hominick fight when he was on his back, gassed and terribly sick, or when he tripped on a TD against Lamas and just rode out the fifth round.

In other words, the Heavies still fucking sucks.

Cobrinha is past legit, he has won the worlds 6 times. You know the saying there are black belts and then there are BLACK BELTS.

Well, there it is.

Aldo's lack of interest in finish fights by submission made me choose Ortega and Tavarez, but his BJJ game is very, very underestimated.

lmao jesus christ dude give it a rest.

trying to talk Tavares up every time i see you, trying to make Choi's win look better.

I am sure Choi was indeed much more impressive than Conor when it came to fighting wrestler/grappler. Here is Conor begging for a standup.

Just wait for it.
Choi won't just rock him like Nate did.
He will KO Conor.

There's a decent chance TS only saw him fight Conor.

Nova Uniao black belt. He also trains/ed with some of the top names in BJJ. Shaolin, Santos, Fabiano, KiKi, Robson and Demente
