He's obviously given Jones by far his toughest fight, but where does he stand among the rest of the division?

All of his wins were very decisive, but obviously he lost to Phil Davis. I know they won't fight because they're both at Alliance, but how would a rematch go? Is Gustafsson's takedown defense enough to stop Davis? It's possible that Gustafsson is better at defending takedowns from the clinch than defending shots. Does his TDD just match up well against Jones's type of takedowns? I'd pick Gustafsson to beat Davis in a rematch, and think he'd be able to defend the takedowns.

I think he beats the rest of the LHW division by keeping opponents at distance and outstriking them, defending any takedowns. There isn't a LHW I'd pick against Gustafsson except for Jones. I still think Jones is the better fighter, because he can take everyone (except for Gustafsson) down and destroy them with elbows, OR win standing up. I think Gustafsson is the clear #2 LHW though.

I read the title in the Goldie voice, so you were just saying, "Gustafsson is good."

OT: He really looks to have improved immensely since the Davis fight (though he even looked decent in that one, Davis just got the one TD and is beast on the ground). Seems to be the clear #2 in the division.

It's funny how people were saying Jones skills were way above Gustaffsons.

Well I certainly didn't see that in the fight.

I thought gus could maybe get a decision win if he moved and outboxed jones, which is what he did to great success. I think in a rematch however, Jones imposes his game and crushes gus with ease within 2 rounds.

Why do you think this? I've been picking Jones to destroy everyone since 2010, but I don't see how he'd easily win a rematch. Do you think he'll train to find a way to get the takedown at all costs? He was surprisingly unsuccessful with takedowns in this fight.

I was shocked at how much of a fight he gave Jones. He's definitely #2 behind Jones.

I could not believe how good his tdd defense and wrestling was. I was rooting hard and knew he wasn't the wrestle-bait most people were painting him as, but I wasn't expecting him to shrug off that many takedowns or take Jones down 2 times himself.

Gus/Davis was a while ago. Gus still had a day job and didn't train full time back in Sweden back then. He still defended four of five TD's and got right back up from the fifth. He got choked going for his own TD. It's obvious his grappling has improved a ton since then. Even his striking has gotten quite better since then.

I would probably favor Gus over any other LHW besides Jones nowadays.

Congrats to both fighters for showing heart and skill, but Jones can no longer say that his height and reach don't play a huge role in his success. Did asking for this fight backfire for Jones? And does Jones being competitive at HW in the future now seem unlikely? Would he really hold up against JDS?

Gus was defending Davis takedowns as well up until he tried to take Davis down for god knows what reason. Davis just punished him thoroughly for that insolence.

He is the only one that can beat Jones imo at LHW. The fight was really close. Both could have won and a draw wouldn

,He's very very good, hell he might even be champ next time out. He needs to work on his cardio tho.

I thought Jones won by the smallest of margins.
