How does UFC have lower ratings than Boxing?

Reading articles that says UFC is dying, boxing consistently wins in ratings, etc.

How is this possible? I have never met one person who follows boxing. Aside from Mayweather fights, the odd GGG/Canelo, or Pacquio, most people I know do not even know many names - myself included. Sure, I would go to the bar to see a hyped Mayweather fight or something, but shit.

Almost everyone in my age group (I am 29) follow or has followed MMA in some capacity.

Who are these people watching boxing fights on a Friday night? Is it all inner-city people? Obviously I don't socialize with them

Manipulating rankings, lying to fans, over-hyping fighters and putting short-term earnings over the integrity of the sport all have a trickle down effect.

Also boxing has been around for ages and in a way is casual-friendly (no grappling)

What is your nationality? And what demographic to you hang around?

I have a similar experience with most people I hang around with. Most of them don't follow boxing. But if you go to a boxing event at Barclay's or the Garden, it's incredible how passionate some fans are out there. There are alot of boxing fans. They just may not be within your circle.

Boxing is also huge in European and Hispanic countries also.

UFC is on dying, on life support. Only CM Punk or Conor can save them now

Italian/Spanish, I am in Corporate Tax, I hang around ages 25-35, white collar types. But still, isn't it them who would be ordering the PPVs, or having money to do so? I just find it odd that I have never met a REAL boxing fan

Because as of right now, boxing has more excitement.. Lomachenko, Gassiev vs Usyk.. Mikey Garcia, potential of Wilder vs Joshua, more talented amateur boxers moving to pro..

I like UFC, but except Khabib vs Ferguson, nothing is really hyping me up right now.

Yeah, I hear ya. I have the same questions and thoughts about it. But then I'll run into random people who are passionate about boxing, and then go to events and it's surprising how many fans there actually are out there.

I'm about the same demographic but American and nobody I work with it come across talks about boxing. MMA conversations are as common as talking about comic book movies. Everyone knows what they are and watches, but about 1/3 keep up with it and is a fan.

For the record I am American too, I meant Italian/Spanish ancestry

But yeah, everyone around me knows about MMA, and will talk to me as if I am clueless - "Oh, this guy Khabib has nasty takedowns", and I will just nod as if I am not a guy who has watched every Khabib fight and posts on Sherdog

Just because you can take someone down doesn't mean you should.

I want to get into boxing. I have relative hype for Joshua's next fight, or GGG/Canelo rematch. My problem with boxing is it seems so fucking hard to follow. So many belts, organizations, promoters, no one I know watches, etc... I just wish it was under one roof like UFC. I think UFC is for the simple minds

How does one even start? I don't think I can sit through a Friday night ESPN card with no-names

Yeah, with boxing, for the most part people follow specific fighters in boxing. But still alot of people follow the sport as a whole.

Boxing builds the fighters up better. It's easier to sell a fight between two undefeated fighters than an elite UFC fighter with double digit number of losses.

Khabib is the only one in MMA who has a boxing-style undefeated record and it does wonders for him.

Canelo vs GGG was a fight between 49-1 vs 37-0. Joshua is 20-0, Wilder 39-0, Fury 25-0.

You can talk about padding records all you want but it's a proven method to get the really big fights. The more you let people wait, the bigger the ratings are going to be.

After some thought, I came across 2 different people that seemed to follow boxing, both Hispanic. I know it the 90s boxing seemed big. Not like The are getting on mainstream tv anymore besides Mike tyson. Back in the day holyfield was in commercials, Foreman was popping up randomly (even was on a TV show) now I can't name 3 current American boxers or 6 current boxers from anywhere

There is one reason. Over saturation, there are simply to many UFC fights. There is a fight damn near every week.

If the UFC held one big event every 6 weeks their ratings would increase considerably.

WME are clueless
They are spamming cards for $
these cards have 1/2 good fights
I don't blame them because Zuffa did the same for the last few years but they were always planning to sell up by 2017 so it was just a way to make as much $ as they can
But these fools don't understand that and think it's good business because Zuffa did it
By 2023 if they carry on, the ufc will be trash

Pretty much

WME are clueless
And I called this shit years ago
