We're all projecting countries based on the world map this century. That's a last century way of looking at things. This century, we're going to be expanding out into space. Yes, I know that sounds crazy. But imagine telling someone in 1500 that soon there will be a New World. What little does he know about 1520! How does this change the calculations?

Space colonies could want autonomy from Earth.
Space colonies are far into the future. What's closer in the future is that most of our infrastructure is being rapidly moved into space.

Many countries are still only focused on their territories on Earth. Much like the powers that were blindsided by the New World and got left in the dust behind the Spanish and the Portuguese and eventually the British navies, they're going to be shocked when they're left behind in this century's near future. They thought only their land mattered; turns out the oceans mattered too, even though no one lived in the oceans, because trading and defense infrastructure moved into the oceans.

Space is going to matter too. Countries that are spending like 1.5% of their GDP on military and space capability research, because they feel secure in their land and ocean interests, for example, are going to be in that 15th century situation.

too optimistic, dude.
we can barely afford to leave the planet.
what colonies in outerspace?
maybe come 2400

actually, I too want to know about their perspective.

I am sure space and space travel are fake.
They have deemed NASA to be fake and every shot from space to be fake.
I dont have high hopes for good points or arguments.
Maybe a little entertaining if we are lucky.

In order to move into space, we would need harmony on Earth. Good luck.

yea, it was difficult talking to flat earthers about it.

all the pictures are fake.

the space station is fake.

the Soviets were in on it, which is why they didn't call bullshit on the moon landing

NASA means deception in Hebrew

the UN is on it too, which is why the UN flag is actually a flat earth model.

Who's talking about colonies.. Communications infrastructure and defense infrastructure that are necessary for: transportation, trade, security, etc. are all in space or moving into space. Asteroid mining and other hard physical resources aren't that far into the future either. National interests aren't only on land and in the oceans anymore. Countries that aren't focusing on developing both their space infrastructure and space interests and the ability to defend them are going to be left behind. We're at the beginning period of this. But, like the oceans in the 15th century, the importance of it will expand a million fold very quickly, in just decades, and the early players in the game will be at a huge advantage.

I feel as though by the end of the century, baring some total war scenario, there will be multiple alliances between the multipolar superpowers, but that they will still all form a cartel to keep the smaller nations in their place.

I see these as being:

US
EU
China
India

With the following sitting at the table, but having less power:

Russia
Brazil
Saudi Arabia
Maybe Canada
Maybe Japan

How this plays out in space is anyone's guess, but I imagine each of the top tier powers will want exclusivity over their quadrant, and then the rest will be traded back forth as colonial powers used to do with Africa or the Americas.

we have a few legit flat earthers on this site actually.
it was interesting and sad to discuss with them.
now i just ignore them.

You can't see any of the US flags on the moon using binoculars. I am sure that is important for some reason.

We can't. But they can. I read that Amazon is going into the space business.
I think we'll see asteroid mining in our lifetime given "diversity" doesn't overwhelm the West. That would mean tons of natural resources and then eventually colonies.

we have all the resources we need right here.
the entire world is going for regenerable energy, hydro, nuclear, geothermal, solar.
mining for what? on asteroids? we barely landed a small probe on a comet and it got rekt rather quickly.
from this to asteroid mining? what asteroids? you'd have to be in a region of space where asteroids are numerous, and even in places like the asteroid belt, they are enormously far from each other, not just bumping into one another like we see in movies.
mining would be a possibility only if you'd find some fantastic resource there. what would that be in a future when the power of the sun will give all the energy we will need?
there's like no reasonable motive besides political posturing to go in space now. why do you think nobody went to the moon in 50 years?

in all fairness, I think a couple were trolls. I do find them interesting...flat earthers...to se how far someone will commit themselves to an ideology /set of beliefs that is easily refutable.
