Rory is probably my all time favourite fighter. Right there with BJ Penn. Hes so well rounded everywhere. Striking, Cardio, Heart, Grappling, Footwork, IQ etc... So how does prime Rory Mac (lets say 2014/2015 or so), do against the following 2020 fighters?

    -Jorge Masvidal
    -Colby Covington
    -Gilbert Burns
    -Leon Edwards
    -Kamaru Usman

So essentially todays top 5. Does he finish any of these guys? Do any of them finish him?

Maybe you didnt read the post? I said prime Rory. The Rory that fought Lawler.. Lawler back then was an absolute motherfucker and gives any WW problems.

Lawler ended Rory's prime. Started it with the win in the three rounder, finished it by melting his nose into ash.

I think I'd favor him against Jorge, Leon and Burns. Usman seems like a hard fight, though I could also see him outpointing Kamaru if he managed to keep distance, which is easier said than done. Colby I think would give him issues with sheer pressure more than anything, since I think Rory on paper should be more skilled, but Colby definitely has more in the tank.

Not really going to disagree with that. Rory sure helped Robbie's decline as well.. Robbies 3 back to back fights with Johny, Rory and Condit probably took 10 years off his life.

-Jorge Masvidal - Think he stands a good chance here - Mas is unreliable
-Colby Covington - Maybe but think Colby takes him to the Realm of (decision) Chaos and takes the W.
-Gilbert Burns - Burns is hot atm but I'm not so convinced he is all that - still Burns prolly wins.
-Leon Edwards - Leon runs the rounds 3 or 5.
-Kamaru Usman - Not even a consideration - Oos Oos Oos.

    Not sure any "Finish him"

How on earth does Colby, Masvidal and Burns beat prime Rory lol. Prime Rory had amazing TDD, so Usman vs Rory would've been interesting.

I think Robbie lived and died on the edge of JBG warfare. There was no other way he was going to win top level fights without engaging in pantheon level brutality. Robbie's run when he emerged as a legitimate contender to the champion to the actual title holder is one of my favorite runs in MMA history.

-Jorge Masvidal (Rory would wrestle him)
-Colby Covington (Rory could beat him)
    -Gilbert Burns (Burns by KO)
-Leon Edwards (Leon beats him or 50/50)
-Kamaru Usman (Usman beats him 50-45)

Loses to Kobe and Marty. Beats Mas and Burns. Tossup against Scott, leaning towards Rory.

I feel like Rory had the right combination of superior striking, great defensive wrestling, athleticism, cardio, length and speed to give guys like Usman and Colby a lot of problems.

Its hard to say though, Rory was ruined after the Lawler fight at only 24 or 25 years old. Ever since that fight, hes responded to damage horribly, has contemplated retirement and has become apprehensive while not progressing with his skills either.

Truth be told, I think Rory was a greater talent than any of the top 5 at WW right now and we largely just never got to see it.

Similarly, the Hendricks, Rory and Condit wars killed what little was left of Lawlers prime too. I think Lawler on his run towards the title could easily have smashed guys like Usman and Colby, he could have lost as well but after being in the game 15+ years and going through 3 consecutive 5 round wars where he was probably concussed multiple times in each...hes not the same but the Woodley KO and Colby beating say very little on how great he was.

I think Rory was always a little overrated. Id give him a decent chance against Masvidal and Edwards. Colby, Burns and Usman all beat him concinvingly.
