To have 1 round which he typically wins then get Finnished in the second? What kind of conditioning is this dude doing to frequently win the first round then lose. It's amazing to have a clear hole and never fix it. Seemed the better grappler then got tired after a few exchanges and became a white belt.
just CUT him , why is he still around ? embarrassing performance everytime. they should cut him after the Burgos fight. he aint no UFC caliber
Probably genetic. Some people just don't have the air ways or cardiovascular system for cardio intense sports. Doesn't matter how much they train. Same with Greg Hardy, Zabit and many others. I'm honestly surprised he keeps trying after losing in the exact same way so many times.
Greg Hardy has asthma though and i thought Zabit has some kind of disease that affects his cardio too?
Interesting. Aren't there any examples of fighters known for having bad cardio actually improving it?
To be in his weightclass and be in that kind of shape, he must just have terrible cardio genetics. It isn't normal for a talented featherweight to ha e a 1 round gas tank. He always wins the first round when he's fresh too. Talented but man, his cardio just plain sucks.
I'm thinking a lot of guys with bad cardio might have mild cases of asthma. It's very common. They probably do fine when they train techical stuff and go 70% but when they need to go hard for 3 rounds they can't get enough oxygen in their systems. Just a theory though...
He hasn't been training at SBG for years and years. He spent 12-16 months there at most, and also had similar issues with cardio before and after SBG. The only time when he seemed to be in really good shape and didn't appear to have those issues was when he was with the Allstars Gym in Stockholm.
Oh for sure. It certainly didn't help him though. And that specific issue has popped up for several SBG guys. Makwan just doesn't have the genes for it, as others have mentioned.
Yeah, I'm inclined to agree. It's really bizarre honestly! I've been following MMA since 2005 or so, and I've never seen anything like it below the HW division, much less with a guy who fights at 145 and doesn't even bloat himself up between camps or anything. He always looks to be in slim shape and consistently trains.
But we do have a state sponsored PED testing program, which is pretty crazy. Other Finnish fighters don't have issues with cardio though.
Greg Hardy is like 377 pounds and has asthma. Harder to explain with someone who's relatively small and all lithe.
Barboza, Chikadze, Conor, Makwan, Aldo... These are some fighters off the top of my head who could never improve their cardio. Usually when they lost it was because they gassed so they were definitely aware of it. I'm not a doctor or anything but pretty sure it's genetic. Just like you have your cardio freaks like Holloway, Ferguson etc. Sure, you can improve your cardio like you can improve your strength and power but only to the extent your genetics allow.
