I will say Ronda didn't suck. Her coach failed her; she carried some heavy hands. She would be a top fighter today, in her prime. Imagine if she had a good striking coach and evolved her takedown game.

Sure, the elites have her number because she didn't diversify her throws or use different takedowns, so avoiding the head and arm grab and out boxing her at distance works for Holly and Mandy. But girls like Pena and a lot of the ranked 125ers? Ronda would probably smash them. None of them are any more evolved than prime Cat, Davis, Liz.

Volk played ball at 214 and is 144 champion.
Even if she cut 37 pounds of water, she couldn't return that much fluid into her system in 36 hours. She may walk around heavy, but she's not getting back to 100% of that weight by fight time

You do realize Kayla was 15 when this happened and Ronda was 18.

Put a 15 year old teen against an 18 year old teen and you'll see why those 3 years make a HUGE difference.

Ronda vs Kayla would be kind of like Brock vs Velasquez. Kayla isn't as good of a striker as Cain, but the point is her striking is at least one level above Ronda's, and without having to worry unduly about the takedown, without that stifling her striking, she would just land and land on Ronda without much threat coming back.

Ronda said she quit MMA because she had repeated concussions and neurological damage, from judo as well as MMA, and she would sit in dark rooms while seeing stars and stuff. Kayla wouldn't have helped with that.

Kayla is huge. Ronda would struggle to her down. Most of the ones she beat had no idea about judo. Kayla obviously does. Kayla probably outstrikes her and maybe even takes her down and is too much there I think, at least after Ronda is already worn down a little.

Ronda does have better armbars (was also a speciality for her in international-level judo).
If they were really the same size I'd guess it'd just be a striking battle.
