Having a few problems trying to stay focused on boring tasks right now. I'm so distracted. Teaching myself accounting basics right now, but this spans out all the way throughout my life struggling with school. Just wondering if you guys had attention span, concentration problems and found a way to work around it. Or just how you guys study in general would help. Thanks.

I use a specific area to study. I hardly use my laptop unless its required (research papers).

Do something you enjoy and you're interested in.

Make sure that you're well-rested before you proceed to endeavor on any type of hardcore work/study/research. And of course coffee can help get your head into gear, but if you want a real, quick boost than just eat the coffee granules, even if they do taste like dog shit. Take it easy with the sugar as well.

Coffee and Jazz Music.

This guy right here, he knows how to do it. That, and log off of Sherdog. If it becomes too hard to focus, take your books to a coffee shop, have yourself a coffee, and read your books at the coffee shop for an hour.

Another trick I do is re-reading old related matter. For example, if I'm reading up on electrocardiology, and I'm losing my focus or drive, I might grab an old textbook about basic cardiology and read that at the coffee shop for an hour. It's stuff I already know, so I'm able to go through it quickly, but it's reinforcing my knowledge, it's on topic, and I may still pick up something I've missed previously. I'm sure accounting must have similar layers of knowledge.

Yes.......stay away from laptop, phone, tv, video gaming system, hand held devices. These are all no good. Only use laptop to find relevant information, if needed. If you have notes on your laptop, print them out, even if it is 150 pages.

Fuck accounting.

When I need to really study I lock myself in my room and listen to some music and get the study grind going.

Agreed. I print out all of my papers and research articles. I can't stand reading that on the laptop. A lot of textbooks are available for rent or purchase in e-format these days. I'll never buy one.

If I'm doing notes for studying, I use a notebook instead. I think actually writing it helps me memorize compared to just typing it.

Take my laptop to a noisy Starbucks, surf FB for an hour, stay another 5 hours but only buy one cup of coffee and just people watch.

Don't have the TV on or anything to sidetrack you. In college I would wear sound proof headphones. Practice smart studying which means if you aren't retaining anything because your mind is somewhere else don't waste your time by sitting in the room. I always took a 10 minute break every two hours to clear the my head. Basic accounting is really interesting, give it a shot!

Lol I can't tell you how many times I have done this, except I usually go to Tim Hortons. Hence the reason I suggested no laptop.

1. I waited til the last minute to do everything then I really felt the pressure.

2. I set a study date with a hottie forcing me to learn some of the material before hand

I just recently started going to college and only one thing keeps me focused.

Caffeine.

1-Coffee.
2-More coffee.
3-Get away from distractions. I like to go to the library and just find a secluded place where there simply is nothing to do but work.
4-Be organized. List what you want to accomplish before you begin.
5-Start off slow. Begin with something easier just to build up some momentum and warm up the mental muscles.
6-Study in a group. This kindof contradicts getting away from distractions, and can certainly backfire if youre too far ahead of your peers in terms of knowledge on the subject, but it also tends to make the activity more fun and that in turn will make it easier.
7-Exercise. You'll feel sharper and more energetic if you include some daily physical activity in your lifestyle.

Just things that have worked for me in the past. Good luck.

I wouldnt suggest it for anyone else, but i get too wrapped up in my thoughts sometimes, and i keep a sher-window open, to distract me.
It helps me drop the fat from my ideas and keep the important stuff.
