Why is that grammatically correct? What about general or gemstone? Or if your referring to words which start with a g-i, what about Gin?

Gin is the only one you can argue but it is very clearly the same as gift without a T and should be pronounced that way. No one says JIFT.

Does the word Graphic have a hard or soft G. Thats what the g stands for so you should use that sound.
