    To prevent, wear headgear.

I guess you will know when they start to swell, you have intense pain in your ears, they start to feel squishy ( think these are all signs, somebody back me up here).

haven't you heard? cauliflower ears make you hard as nails.

    wear head gear to prevent

when i had mine they got very sore and when i tried to bend them like you would bend an ear normally, they KILLED.

Soon thereafter they started to swell and became tender, to the point where it was hard to roll, so i went to the drug store and asked for the largest guage needle they had, it was like 20 cents, and got my training partner to suck all the crap out

it didn't really hurt, and they are normal now, if you don't catch it soon enough the stuff calcifies and becomes hard, so you can't drain anything out.

I just got my first little bit of cauliflower ear last week ... trust me, you'll know when you start getting it. Swelling of the ear and soreness are dead give aways. It'll be pretty obvious ... about as obvious as a ring-taw game in the middle of a hoe-down.

I think a 23 gauge needle is plenty big enough...ears often refill with fluid afterwards though.

lol funny thread... Your ear will be filled with blood and the form changes, if you won't treat it in a hospital it will stay that way... It doesn't mean that you get a calliflower though, im rolling 5 years now once i got hurt in the ear i went to hospital they cut it open got out the blood and i was ok afterwards.

Cauliflower ear is the black belt of grappling.

Your ear will be painful to touch. This will be due to bruising and fluid buildup in the cartilage. If you do not get the fluid drained, it will crystalize and form cauliflower ear. If you do get the fluid drained, it will probably just come back and crystalize and form, you guessed it, cauliflower ear.

Wear it like a badge of honor. It's like wearing a sign that says,
"I know how to hurt people."

Headgear is the only way to prevent it.

Yeah. My ears started getting it recently. The ear sweels and gets squishy (I figure it's a bunch of blood). Then, after some time, the blood leaves your ear, but some residue remains. That builds up and that is what makes cauiliflower ear.
