I'm going to check out a boxing gym today but want to get some info so I can be prepared and no what to expect. I've got a background in Tae Kwon do, and have done muay thai and bjj on and off. This is my first time going to a boxing gym. It sounds like there's no actual class schedule and you just come in while the gym is open. I'm thinking you would probably just hit the bags and spar and occasionally pay for private instruction to correct mistakes. Is that how things go in most boxing gyms?

Usually there's different types of classes too

Where i train there are 2 beginner's groups, 2 intermediate, 1 advanced, 1 'competitive selection' group, a below 16 group, and apart from that there's the people who train for the olympics, private classes, the women's group, old people class, special cardio hours, work shops for companies and stuff, old champs that still train there, etcetera etcetera etcetera

I've just started boxing so I can advise from a beginners point of view. I personally have opted for private lessons first. I'd like to get the fundamentals perfect before I go in with the others. It's nice to know you won't pick up any bad habits along the way.

No sort of schedule or class structure whatsoever? There must be something other than open gym. Let us know how it goes.

I tried a free class, loved it and signed up. There's a morning class and an evening class and the gym is open from 10am to 9pm for use. It's 65/month(45 with a year contract) and 10/ per class. It's pretty self paced and the coach works with you on where he feels you should be at as opposed to everybody coming in and learning the same thing. The gym is called legends boxing in Tampa.

Not a bad deal at all. Enjoy my man.
