How did the alt-right became more popular than the tea party

The alt-right is a term coined by Richard Spencer. It applies to movements associated with his ideology. It's by no means all republicans.

And yes, the alt-right includes several Nazi groups.

Peterson et.al are often referred to as the alt-lite to distinguish them from the more extreme groups.

So the left needs to stop using that term for for people that don't follow his view and just disagree with their views.

No, people like you attach vague criticism to a nebulous "they" to stoke fears of an unspecified group, unlike alt-right, who have demonstrated (by establishing a strong base for Trump whoreshippers-er-worshippers) that they have a significant presence in American politics.

They got there with the money of people like Robert Mercer and the propaganda sites like Brietbart, along with the aforementioned spamming of bs on social media by the Russians and others. The fact that the Russian strategy matched so well with Bannon's is highly suspect IMO.
Stoke fears of what, exactly, and among whom? You mean like saying there is a huge wave of nazis and klansmen taking over and the gov't is the next nazi dictatorship?

So the alt right is a clearly defined group, but the people who haphazardly lump in people with them is a "nebulous they"? All while you yourself proceed to claim the alt right is "the Russians and others, it's Breitbart, it's social media, it's Robert Mercer". Seems you're at least one person in the "nebulous they".

I'm not aware of any "leftist" who do that. The alt-right also has an inflated presence on internet forums, so you do see them a lot online.

Among the republican base, wasnt rand Paul their front runner? Well he didn't acomplish much. And you're wrong, for some conservatives being called alt-right is offensive as they see just bunch of neo-nazis.
It wouldn't be "alt" if it were that mainstream. Yes, that's what I said, most conservatives aren't "alt right", they just get accused of it when someone wants to avoid conversation.

Both seem to be generally misinformed, and easily led peasants.

Breitbart is the self proclaimed platform for the alt-right.

Mercer is a libertarian who funds some alt-right programs, but most of the funding comes from the Koch brothers.

Russia is only interested in the alt-right insofar as they can be used to disrupt and undermine American democratic institutions. Russia also uses propaganda from the left to achieve the same ends.

More popular among whom? It's a much bigger umbrella that gets more media coverage and people seem to have no problem just calling people "alt right" who don't consider themselves as such. They call Ben Shapiro, Dave Rubin, and Jordan Peterson alt right ffs.

No kidding, this is all there is to it. People just throw labels on others, and call the label popular. Tea Party people were self identified, nobody Alt-Rights themselves...

The white-house is full of white supremacists.

Not all racists are alt-right. Jeff Session is not alt-right. Stephen Miller is etc etc.

stephen miller, jewish white nationalist.

Disgruntled citizens + Labeled and catagorized by media gone wrong and out of control.

Alt right was a lable to begin with. There was no secret organization called the alt right.

It's mostly the same people, just a little more overtly racist now.

I'd say republicans, conservatist, conspiracy theorists (whom are right most of the time bwt), journalists spanning from Assange to youtubers, white men in general, gun lovers, traditionalists and more make up the alt right.

They've been pushed together into a clump by the likes of Hillary Clinton, George Soros, Bush, Buzzfeed, feminism, Islam, immigrants and so on and so forth.

Steve Bannon called Breitbart the platform for the alt-right. You know, the editor of the site.

You might want to read Milo Yishisnamesolong emails to get a clear idea of the alt-right agenda at Breitbart.

The tea party seemed to be more composed of older men with good jobs and money who were interested in taxes (it wasn't an organic movement either, it had big donors behind the scenes), though the alt right brings identity politics into things, with big brash personalities that disaffected white guys who feel very small and unimportant can live through and feel like they are part of something, like the insane clown posse.
