Not even a one punch flash KO. Costa was winning, cutting him off and landed this combo

Biggest brainfart ever or did he really just improve ALOT?

Phillipou has power

Larkin has a chin.

Phillipou threw a punch.

It landed.

he got punched in the face repeatedly and his motherboard decided to shut down his CPU and disconnect from the power supply temporarily

Lorenz has/had a bad habit of walking himself to the cage more often than he should and for a guy like Phillipou who's at his best when on the front foot, that's doing half the job for him.

Bit of both
Lorenz Larkin does his best work when he can control the center, his defensive footwork is limited to backing almost straight up and circling wide dodgeball style when he's close to the fence.
Some people don't realize that size matters more than just in the clinch, or power or reach advantage - sometimes being the bigger guy naturally gives you the ability to bully with pressure in a way a smaller guy can't.

Larkin likes to back up and try to counter guys with straight shots - but at his heart he's a kicking centric fighter, and you can't kick productively off your back foot no matter how good you are. He's improved a bit, but he's still at his best when he can be the bully and pressure a guy backwards - not hyper aggressively but he's best when his opponent is outside the blacklines not vice versa. It's not an uncommon style flaw, Thiago Alves has the same issue, and so did Cerrone until the last couple years. It's why Lorenz dropped the split ot TUmenov, becuse he kept conceding the center despite doing his bet work there and was forced to fight off his back foot.

He'd probably beat Costas now - he's more effective off his back foot, but he still would run into some of the same issues.

I think Larkin was being a little gunshy there because he knew Costas had power.

Plus Larkin has great overall stand up but he tends to fail against better boxers (Costas, Tumenov).

Maybe a bad matchup for him. He lost to another good boxer in Albert Tumenov.

It was a good fight but Costa was bigger, stronger and the better boxer of the two. He was able to keep Larkin backing up and caught him on the cage. Overall I would say Larkin has the better striking however Costa had the style to beat him.

How ironic considering his criticism of Conor

Larkin doesn't get enough attention after his last stunning performance. He's rejuvenated himself and has just recently added lifting weight in his work out regime for the first time. Lorenz has bumped his game to a whole notha level, and he's one of the best strikers in the game...

phillipou has exceptional boxing. you put that along with the size advantage and he got the win.

THreat of the TD. As you know, that has always been his weakness above 170. He looks great at WW.

shit happens.

some times its just not your night.

Couple of things:

1. He's a lot better at 170 than 185 or 205. It's much better suited to his height, reach and other physical qualities.
2. His skills have improved considerably as well, and finding the right weight class allows him to show them off a lot better.

I don't know why anyone's even bothering to give their two cents after this. Bravo!
