The guy is 17-1 with his only loss coming to Mike Pyle, one of the most savvy, experienced veterans in the UFC.. It's understandable that he only finished 1 out of his 7 fights inside the octagon so far, but he's faced some tough to finish guys (Diego, Paul Taylor, etc.).. I was really impressed by his latest outing against Maguire.. Though he didn't get the finish, he looked pretty good.. Great from on top, very tough to submit & control.. Anyone else think he's one of the most underrated WWs out there?

nope, in fact I think he's overrated. He should of lost to Kris McCray of all people.

He started out as a fairly highly touted prospect but he's failed to improve or impress in recent fights.

Come on now.. Underwhelming against McCray, yes.. But he clearly won the fight

Seems to have been replaced by Rory in the young, white, super hyped WW role.

i dont think he is under or over rated. He is about where he should be.

The most exciting thing he's done in the UFC was when he landed a knee flush on Diego's chin.

Nothing about his game really jumps out at me. Just a solid all around fighter with relatively limited upside.

Impressed by his fight against Maguire? Really? I'm a Hathaway fan (yes I'm British, yes I tend to pull for Brits on principle) but that fight was bloody dire from both of them.

He's decent but unexciting, which will hold him back. Still young though, maybe he will come to something, perhaps a step up in competition would do him good...a Matt Brown fight would be good.

good but the type of guy that would more than not lose to the upper tier fighters.
well rounded but doesn't have one part of his game that stands out.

lol he was hyped up so much after he beat fat sanchez. I think he has peaked, he's pretty good at everything but not great at anything.

He's a jack of all trades fighter who has a couple of good wins (Sanchez, and story)but he will have a hard time against the top fighters at 170 because he has no skill that he's great at

hes gotta start finishing some of his fights.

Beat me to it. He handled Sanchez. But that's about it. He needs to improve "ever so slightly" finish a few guys. makes a lot of difference as a challenger . . . Ask Jon Fitch

When he crushed Diego, I admittedly thought he might very well be the "next best thing." It certainly hasn't panned out that way, though. Despite his impressive and nearly unblemished record, his performances since the Diego fight haven't really impressed me. His split decision victory over Kris McCray, a fighter that virtually nobody knows of, is especially notable. He's still young, however, and has plenty time to improve. Who knows, maybe one day he will be a title contender.

He's not a top WW, not even top 25. So no, I don't think he's underrated.

There's a thread from a couple of years ago I was thinking about bumping recently that was asking who had more potential, Hathaway or Hendricks. A lot of people were saying Hathaway. Now Hendricks is the #1 contender and Hathaway is irrelevant.

Underrated is way overused. His ranking and level of opposition is pretty much bang on where it should be. He would lose to any top 10 WW.
