There always seems to be a thread on the topic, "1st time at bjj" or "going to first class what to expect?" on the first page

Who cares, white b-- I mean, I agree with you completely. Love the idea, and think it should be done, not just to end that kind of thread, but to answer the questions people always seem to ask and help them with things they -- and we! -- never saw coming going into our first brazilian jiu jitsu classes.

It would be a great resource to have for the boards, save lots of room in the forum, and would be a quicker way to help those who are just starting. Instead of having to make a thread, waiting until someone replies anything other than "you gotta checks the oil BD" or "JUST GO MAN, JUST GO", then having to ask to be explained certain things in more depth or in easier terms, he or she could just check out the stickie, learn the basic tips, and feel more comfortable going to their first class.

    Great suggestion, TS.

I can see you're attraction to that, but then there would only be like, 2 new threads a month.

Oh. And there also desperately needs to be a "What should I expect my first day?" Sticky. But then we'd be down to 1 new thread per month...

Agreed that we need one, but to say that we need the first day threads because it'd get quiet in here is like saying we need more shopping channels on tv so you can say there's over 100 to choose from.

Probably because there are 1000 threads on it already.

That, and the tendency for folks to ignore stickies anyway.

Well... I looked at the stickies when I joined, especially here at the grappling forum. But yeah, it kinda happens. At least it would be good to just forward people who don't bother reading them.

Exactly. Put all the 1st class threads into one sticky and then everyone else can just ignore it and go on our merry way.

Why dont you create one yourself?

Here are some topis to get you started:
    -Gi or No Gi
    -What gear will be needed?
-What to expect on your first day
    -Do submissions hurt?
-Will i get 'choked out'? Does it hurt?
-I have the choice between x amoun of clubs, which should i choose?
-How long till my first belt?
-How expensive is it to train?
-Should i watch instructional? Which ones?

Good questions for a start. About making a sticky: what would it take? I'd like to help.

Can't moderators merge threads? I'm not sure of their workload/responsibilities though.

Probably because the topic isn't that important or even interesting. Probably a mention in the FAQs wouldn't be a bad idea though.

Yes. Most of the basic, important stuff could be quickly summed up.
