Workplace safety is so important nowadays but everyone overlooks the silent killer lurking in every office in the western world.

These chairs with the pedals on the sides are surprisingly dangerous.

I was sitting in a chair, like a normal person, but with my feet kind of tucked up under me so my toes were hooked over the leg arms that the wheels go to.

I moved slightly and my heel touched the pedal that makes the seat go down, and since I was sitting on the chair the seat went down, trapping my legs under the chair. I was stuck! I couldn't slide my chair back because of the wall, I couldn't rotate the chair because my legs were trapped. I started to panic.

Luckily I was eventually able to tip the chair over and kind of fall out of it, but the noise made my coworkers come over and ask if I was OK and I just pretended I didn't hear anything.

But what if I couldn't tip the chair over and I was working late and no one could help me?! I could have been stuck in my chair all weekend :(

So this is my PSA to all of you to have an escape plan and to raise awareness of a hidden danger we all deal with on a daily basis.

I used to get stuck in chairs a lot as a child too and my mum had to butter me up to get me out.

Jesus that is a big picture of a chair. I didn't realize it was so big when I copied that one.

Obviously you need to have your Union rep file a grievance and demand formal training for all chair operators, and of course some recovery time for you. Paid, obviously.

I see a lot of those types of chairs with one or more broken tines on the base. They would be sitting next to the dumpster at the business park, one or two of them. That's almost always what was wrong with it-- the padding isn't even worn most of the time because the broken chairs usually looked new. I've seen non-fat people break these in that way just by sitting in them over several months at their desk.

Don't think the materials are durable enough for the crappy design

I hope you get a monthly risk allowance for being forced to sit in a dangerous device.

Sounds like you should probably start wearing a helmet whenever you leave the house

The thing about office chairs is you're too ashamed to report incidents even happening. It's kind of like rape. You're not the only person who's had to no-sell an office chair bump bro

I thought this was going to be a thread about the fact most of them have the potential to ram a powerful piston into your ass if the chair breaks.

But since it's not, I'll just put this here.
