Conor is ONLY valuable when he promotes. That's how he became the highest paid fighter in the UFC!
If he was like any other fighter, one that just fights, he would be lesser known than Aldo. And he would not even be the champ, as her would not get a fast track like he did.

Cursing at the UFC for requiring him to be at the press conferences is just asinine.

Conor asked for this fight! No, he demanded this fight! No one else cared or wanted to see it again (There was no point to it). And Zuffa made it the biggest fight on their biggest card of the year!
Conor signed the fight contract.
Conor knew of the press conference dates and time.
Conor was offered a gym in US (to train while he was here for the press).
And this is not even about him "just training"as his own coach just said they were traveling to Portugal the week prior to the Press conference!

This is Conor's doing! All of it!
AConor gambled and thought he was bigger than the game. He was proven wrong.

So what he "saved two cards"? Many fighters did it in the past.
And it is not like he was added to the card (like Anderson Silva and Nog did at UFC 153). he was scheduled to fight! And he did it for money (to get paid or else he would not fight and not get paid), for the belt (interim, but was added just to entice the deal), and fighting handpicked guys he thought he could beat (with no trainng camp).

Besides, he said himself! he is in for the money!
He is NOT fighting "for the fighters".
He is NOT helping any fighter get paid more (he actually laughed at other fighters making "bum money").
And I am not saying this to bash him. Because it was never expected of him to do that.

yes, fighters need to get a union going.
But the above is not about that.

Please stop trying to change the issue or justify what quite simply is just a men acting up and being unprofessional.

Didn't read but the answer is; majority of them are fucking stupid.

Conor has done so much promotion now that he doesnt need to do it that much anymore. Everyone knows allready. Just tweeting shakes up the whole fucking game now. He lost a fight anyway so him constantly on tv would seem a bit hollow now anyway. I look foward to the fight,he sold me,even if id rather see him fight edgar or even aldo,i must confess i will want to see what happens in this rematch. The casuals only need a little this time i believe, not alot. I dont think it needs to come at the expense of the training he feels he needs to have.

You made some good points in here, I think a lot of this has to do with his ego and also the fact that he badly wants to get the loss back.

However I have heard a few big UFC stars who say that McGregor is now expected to do even more media and even more travel than the other fighters. I think its a case of two ego maniacs not backing down.

Was always going to happen, the UFC have created a monster.

Why lose a great fight because one guy wants to revenge hes loss and wants to do less media?

UFC and Dana always say Conor has saved their asses numerous times and has stepped up when most fighters wouldn't have!

UFC are not losing face here, they have a fighter like Conor whos helped them out numerous times and all they had to say was this is a special case because he done so much for us and other fighters should learn from it. A good relationship should work for both parties.

Plus Conor was willing to appear in New York and face Nate face to face. There is know legitimate reason why this fight should be cancelled. This just the UFC saying no to Conor showing whos boss.

He didn't go to the press conference and all everyone's been talking about is Conor McGregor. I don't think he needs any lessons in promotion.

UFC have shown themselves to be ingrates the one time you dont do what they want. Look at GSP. Look at when Anderson didnt want to fight for the title anymore after he lost to weidman. "nahhhh actually the rematch is worth millions,so you just get back out there and break your leg for us"
Conor twice fought tough guys on short notice for them, when he could have balked, hes been there for them when they needed him,but now when it comes time to return the favor they dont.

Conor tweeting his retirement has promoted this event more than a press conference ever could. Conor fans are among the most intelligent fans on this forum. I hold them up there with Shogun and BJ fans.

Return the favor?! It's not a damn favor,he gets paid more than anyone to do his damn job.
"Return the favor", jesus fuck,I need a break from this forum.

Well if Conor didn't accept those fights he wouldn't be where he's at today. He got good money for those fights.

Of course, but we can see in the past,it doesnt matter how long youve been with the company, even if you hadnt flagrantly shunned a press conference, like GSP and Anderson didnt...they just were at a point in their careers where they just wanted to ease up a little, after dominating and headling for nearly a decade, and look at how they were treated! Anderson came out and said he didnt want to contend for the title anymore, and Machida said they pressured him into taking the rematch. They just wanna suck a fighter dry soon as they feel a penny slip though their fingers.

Not sure if you're serious or just kidding...

What the fuck is the deal with people saying Conor is taking short notice fights and giving the props to him?
Conor didnt take short notice fight,he took short notice opponents. You are literally praising the guy for not pulling out. You know who should get props? His opponents, who actually stepped up on short notice and no camp to fight him for LESS money than him. If UFC should return any "favors" to anyone,it's them.

me neither. I am a conor fan,but some people in here think that he could beat lawler and rockhold, under the right circumstances of course :D

Oh booo fuckin hoo for them being inducted into the famed, high level, epic red panties night that everyone in the company is calling conor out for to get.

1. He saved 3 cards, not 2. Cole Miller pulled out and he agreed to fight Brandao.

2. He is now in a position where he can 'promote' without needing the assistance of the UFC. In any other sport this would be regarded as a good thing by the organisation's hierarchy.

3. He skipped a press conference to focus on training, it's not like he said fuck that I'm on vacation. Punishing an athlete for wanting to improve and therefore be of more value in the long term to the company makes very little business sense.
