Is this how it's done in boxing or other sports as well? seems draconian

yes that's how it's always done. They don't test the B sample until it is requested by the athlete.

They said they couldn't guarantee the sample results would be back in time before weigh-in's.

if I am not mistaken, sample B is tested only if the fighter requests it.
in that case, they cant wait for the fighter to make up his mind, can they?

Why? Wait even longer and screw more people flying in to see this show?

If we just found out last night about the A sample from June 16th, no way the B sample would be back by weigh ins unless they compromise something and rush it. This gives everyone time to adjust the card, and possibly find a replacement.

Because drug testing isn'tisn't a court trial. They find something that's it you're guilty. They then allow for a hearing for you to plead a case for les see time

B sample typically comes back the same as the A sample. If he did it he did it... and I am a Jones fan... if there is even a Jones to be a fan of anymore.
